Today Show host 84 year old mom is missing in Arizona-'concerning circumstances'

It's confusing that initially it was reported that her daughter Annie drove her home and was the last person to see her but, later reports said it was her son-in-law (Tomasso). There were also reports yesterday that the police were at the son-in-law's school (he is a teacher).

Of course, we only know what is in the press and sometimes it is inaccurate and, as the last people to see Mrs Guthrie, it would make sense for the police to thoroughly check them out so, the perpetrator may still have been person(s) unknown to the family.

Having said that, whoever it was went to a lot of trouble (and risk) to hang around and disable cameras etc. Personally, I think it would not be surprising if the ransom notes turn out to be a distraction. Whatever really happened that night, I hope Mrs Guthrie is found alive and returned safely to her family.

@CallMeKate The media here described it as a septic tank.

The SIL is certainly getting a lot of attention ….

I wonder a little, why the children left her on her own to live in the house. She had many health problems and it would seem she would need another adult to watch over her or live with one of them. A medical care home might have been better.

I hope she can be found alive.
It could be her mother didn't want to go into assisted living or a retirement. Some don't want that setting regardless of their health.

That being said with the some close by relatives that can check on her frequently maybe they never felt the need.

The suspects are familiar with her and house. Wether a contractor, family, friend, neighbor etc. If they researched her is her wealth the same as Savanah's? Are there are people in that neighborhood with greater wealth?

The day my children control my life will be a sad day for me.

My mother stayed in an assisted living arrangement. Dad took out a long term care insurance package for both mom and him. She had a small apartment and was in a community of other Seniors. They made sure she took her meds each day, gave her three meals each day, helped her bathe, if necessary, helped her clean the apartment, she was assigned a senior high school girl that would sit with her three nights a week while also making sure she took her meds, checking her vitals and getting her ready for bed. Mom had her for two years. She saved my mom one night. Mom choked on an almond from an Almond Joy candy bar and she handled the situation very skillfully.

My sister and I were grateful for her. My mom really liked this girl who had signed up to go to college to earn her **BSN degree. My sister and I decided to pay for her first year in college. We only paid the tuition part, but not the boarding. She cried when my sister gave it to her. They weren’t paid very much helping at the community for Seniors and her family wasn’t wealthy. We felt it was the right thing to do and a good way to show our thanks.

**I think I made a mistake. She went to John’s Hopkins University School of Nursing. I think she was going to go for her Masters degree. I believe it was referred to as an MSN degree. Master of Science in Nursing. I am not 100% certain.

I think Mrs Guthrie seems to have been an able lady despite her medical conditions. She was obviously able to get herself changed and into bed in the evenings and mornings, was able to use Uber and also to drive herself when she needed to. I am, of course, only supposing this but, there was obviously no one to help her when she was dropped off on the Saturday night and, if there had been a carer there in the morning (Sunday), Mrs Guthrie's absence and the evidence of an intruder would have been discovered before Mrs Guthrie's family were informed that she had failed to arrive at church (I think, around noon).

I don't know if whoever dropped Mrs Guthrie off on the Saturday night, actually took her into her home or not? I haven't read anywhere which mentions the possibility that Mrs Guthrie may have discovered someone in her home when she arrived back from the daughter's house?

As interviewers and interviewees alike, have pointed out, there are things about this kidnapping that do not add up

I have given this a lot of thought, and this is my take on why the kidnapping is so bizarre:

I think it was someone close enough to Mrs. Guthrie that they just flat out, got sick and tired of all her bragging on her children, especially Savannah.

I think they just decided to shut her up. Not to kill her. But to send some notes to the news media. Real kidnappers don’t do that, but somebody who wanted the family down on their knees groveling in the public ey, in front of the entire world, would do something like that. IMHO.

I missed the very beginning of the today show this morning, but when I got back up from the barn, I noticed that Hoda Kotb is now sitting in Savannah‘s place. I don’t know if that is temporary, or if possibly Savannah has said enough is enough I want out of the spotlight and they possibly brought Hoda back either until they find a replacement for Savannah or Hoda is the replacement.

This is a bit off topic, but it's not the only post that has been.

Sometimes I worry about what the future holds since I have no children checking in on me, until I think that I might be institutionalized based on medications I take or the number of bad days I have. Be nice to those kids.

I agree with you that the kidnapping scenario seems off which is why I would not be surprised if it turns out to be a distraction.
