Today's conversation with Russian president

Sorry Murr I don't mean to argue. It's very good of you to try to see something fine in someone so foul, but I have not seen evidence that he has empathy for the Russian people.

If you're speaking about him opening up the churches and going to church functions himself, that's all show. They are not to be trusted. Even Yeltsin who once shared a good laugh with Clinton.
Oh, and I never mistake a discussion for an argument (in the antagonistic sense of the word).

I don't know what kind of sanctions the US could impose on Russia. I doubt that we import very much of anything from that nation....it's nowhere near what we get from China, for example. Some of the European nations might suffer, as they seem to get a good portion of their oil and gas from Russia. This whole thing just kind of sounds like a bunch of baloney being spouted with little to back it up.

I think we missed an opportunity with Yeltzin. I think we could have worked with him.

All I see in Putin is that he's ego-maniacal, eloquent, and very dangerous. But I've seen evidence that he has empathy for the Russian people, and it seemed genuine. I hope it was because the Russian people will suffer greatly if he invades Ukraine. But even so, he might see their "temporary" suffering as a fair exchange for world dominance.

I had a Russian girlfriend once. She told me entirely different stories, than what American television propaganda has to say.

Informative but scary

I agree it's practically impossible to avoid the political side of a seemingly imminent war.
I won't be mad if this thread is removed.

I've heard it in some of his speeches. He souded pretty passionate, too. But could be he's just a really good actor, tho.

Czar Putin has a murderous legacy that even frightens his own contemporaries. And another thing IMHO this thread is in no way even associated with politics. This thread is addressing a hemispherical conflict that most certainly can lead this planet into a nuclear conflict.

I would like to know what sanctions NATO could apply to Russia that would counteract Putins refusal to release Nord-stream2 to Germany? That could be his bargaining chip for the United States to distance itself from long term embedded military support for a nation state that was a valuable natural resource part of the former Soviet Union.

the number of casualties were estimated to be over a million if we invaded japan

if turman did not drop the bomb and the American public found out about the bomb which may have made invasion unnecessary-there would be hell to pay

ultimately both of the above reason lie in the political realm-unless you were a member of the invasion force

I favor the bombing, more if we had them, but we didn't...one a day until Japan surrendered

Russia, as you know, is not a member of the EU. Restricting their natural gas exports could potentially crumble Russia's economy. Problem is, France et al would experience gas shortages and rising fuel costs (which is why I mentioned the Keystone Pipeline earlier).

I just woke up and haven't read the latest but last night I saw that our president's "threats" already caused a steep little dip on the Russian market. Meanwhile Putin is telling him to stfu, nothing is happening here.

I'm gonna go check out wussup after my "morning" tea.

If one of you reading this, has an email address for or know how to contact Mr Putin, I'd be happy to address him myself.
Maybe we could invite him to become one of us. Just as other people have faith about other things, I have faith that we
can change the world, if only we try. We all live on the same planet, after all. And despite our differences, maybe we can
do what's never been done, get along a little better. Crazy? Yeah, maybe but so are lots of other things. Crazy changes things.

CPB I strongly suggest you use a VPN. lol.

It doesn't look good when Russia shakes hands with the Chinese, surrounds Ukraine on 3 sides, moves 130,000 troops with armor and tanks to the borders and our President who pulled out of Afghanistan leaving thousands behind starts shooting his mouth off like he is some kind of bully. Heck the President of Ukraine was asking him to tone it down. This really could go bad. There are Russian soldiers standing in the cold just edging to either go to war or go home. It's very costly to move tanks, men and housing for 130,000 much less feed them without a mission. This is not a war game. He at the least wants to change the political leadership of Ukraine into puppets of Russia without firing a shot. He doesn't want NATO missiles on his border.

All true. He also doesn't want them to ever be part of the EU.

Plus, I read that most the people in northeast Ukraine consider themselves Russian, prefer socialism, and want autonomy/separation from Ukraine.

I wonder what the age and religious demographic is in that region? Kiev and the surrounding NE region was basically a Jewish community from post-WWl until just before WWll when a lot of them fled. And of course they were Soviet Jews.

Well it's Tue one of the predicted or speculated invasion dates. Another group is predicting tommorow.

Putin seems to be waiting for a cancelation on his calendar. He'll have to pencil in an invasion between a political opposition assassination and doping Olympic athletes.

I got two, II, count em 2 brats to feed so I really don't want to wake up this weekend somewhere in the upper atmosphere.

Russia/Soviet-Union/Warsaw-Pact/NATO/United States conventional to nuclear warfare escalation.

Tragic: This UK WWIII animation as disturbing as an animation can be must be watched until the end to fully understand the government sponsored futility of the global "Civil Defense Programs".

Thanks for watching and may GOD see us through this situation.
