Tonight on TV

AZ Jim

R.I.P. With Us In Spirit Only
Norman Lear's special, live audience, ALL in the FAMILY redux. Woody Harrelson and Marisa Tomei etc. Might be fun!! It's on ABC. Runs 1.5 hours...

I have not yet decided if I will watch. I am a bit curious on how they will play it in this era, since when both shows were on, it was a different time and place. If I do not watch tonight, I may watch later on demand.

I wasn't a big fan of the "comical racists," the first time around, so I'll pass this time, as well. I know some will appreciate the heads up, though.

My only intention here is to remind others of this special. I do not condone racism in any form. Still I do not believe we can bury our darkness and I think this is an unknown until viewed. To each his own. View or don't but viewing this special is in no way an endorsement of discrimination.

I forgot about till I saw your post, AZ & then watched about the last half. Thought the woman who played Edith really nailed the voice & gestures if not the looks. & the man & woman who played the Jeffersons. It was kind of a slice of the past. Many shows have satirized various ethnicities, social classes & professions so I didn't think it was any more or less "racist" than any other piece of fiction.

I was actually looking forward to it, since they were my favorite shows. I have almost every "Jeffersons" episode on DVD. But I didn't understand something. I thought they would be "new" shows with the same theme. After a minute of "The Jeffersons," I realized it was the exact same dialogue with different actors - that weren't close to being as entertaining as the original.

I never watched either show the first time around and didn't bother to tune into the latest version - -but it was kind of Jim to mention it although I guess he didn't enjoy it either.

Don mentioned watching the news and, speaking for me and only me, the news is like a trip to the dentist to have my teeth pulled. Between Fox and MSNBC and all the Sinclair stations across the country along with Talk Radio, you might as well be watching the news from Mars or the Moon. The crap is so distorted from reality and we're left to choose which fits our personal views and that becomes gospel - - -to us. Pathetic! Maybe the weather's reasonably reported and the local high school sports scores but the national news is mostly BS.

I didn't watch it but read that Jamie Foxx who played'George Jefferson' flubbed a line ,turned to the camera saying'Its live TV' while his cast mates laughing in the background
The surprise appearance of Marla Gibbs who played "Florence' in the original show, she represented her deceased castmates,Sherman Hemsley"George',Isabel Sanford"Weezy' was a highlight
