Tonight Show Hosts...My Evaluation

Hello,

I thought Jack Parr was good, but Johnny Carson was Great!

Jay Leno was not bad, but Conan O'Brien stinks. His material is funny, but I just can't stand the sight of him!

The one I really miss was chain-smoking bad-boy intellectual pianist Oscar Levant!

Boy Hal, Do I ever agree with that! Only Conan thinks he's funny. Very few people think he is.
That's why they put him on @ 10PM. Way past my bedtime.

I can't even stand to look at him; much less listen to him.

A few years back we were in NYC. We happen to be in the area where people were handing out tickets to the Conan O'Brien show. All I knew about him was that he was a comedian, I never even saw his show. The hubby wanted to see the show. We were told that once we were in we couldn't leave. I guess they didn't want to show any empty seats when they scanned the audience. I'm sure had they let people leave there would have been many empty seats. He wasn't the least bit funny and extremely crude when they took breaks. Down right disgusting.

I liked Johnny, as he is the first of the hosts I actually watched. I liked some of Jay Leno, but usually would just tune in for his monologues and when he did Headlines. Jimmy Fallon is the current host, and as with Leno, usually just watch his monologues and then on Friday's when he does his Thank You notes. The only late show I have ever followed regularly is Bill Mahar.

Of course, heeerrrre's Johnny! ;) Jay Leno was great, sorry to see him retire. Jimmy Fallon is O.K., he's just not "our" generation.

Jack Parr kept me company through many late night baby feedings. Kiddies born '57 and '59. Late night programing was scarce during those days. I took what I could get and was grateful for it. I remember Parr for his subtle, gentle humor or at least that's how I remember him now 60 years later. He might be shocked at what passes for late-night entertainment these days

Jay was my favorite and always admired him for his work ethic. He said his father always worked 2 jobs and that's what he did. He said he banked his tonight show salary and he and his wife lived on his weekend gigs in Vegas and other venues. Said he never touched the money from the tonight show and continues to work Vegas, etc and the interest from his banked money. He was asked about it on other shows if it was true and he always said it was the way he was raised.

I never watched the late shows, but my mother was hooked on Johnny Carson. She would never go to bed until after his monologue.

I do not like what I've seen of Conan O'Brien.
