Too Early for Resolutions?

Just came up with my first two New Years Resolutions...

Walk pups every day unless the ice or rain is just too crazy.

Begin with book one of Maya Angelou and read through each in order. I have all of them. First I have to round them all up. She wrote " I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" when she was maybe in her 30's. Then each decade became a new memoir. I've read and re-read each one since I was a teen.

Now at almost 54 I know the stories will have much deeper meaning. I loved her writing. She didn't pretty up her mistakes. She just put out there the choices she made, the reasoning and the aftermath. A life fully lived and much to be learned from it. She passed last year, but the mark of a great author...her books will be reprinted forever.

Back by popular demand.....Martha Stewart's New Years Resolutions:

Jan 1st: Catch up on gardening. Sew leaves back onto trees. Do all cooking for 2022.

Jan. 8: Freshen air in home by sliding a dozen Dr. Scholl's Odor-Eaters into heat pump.

Jan. 10: Make steel wool from mussel beards saved over the years.

Jan. 13: Spin silk cord to garrote squid; fill fountain pen with the ink and hand write staff their dismissal notes.

Jan. 15: Observe MLK birthday. Find out who MLK is.

Jan. 21: Culture ancient DNA into dinosaurs for nieces and nephews birthday presents.

Jan. 25: Receive delivery of new phone books. Old ones make ideal personal address books. Simply cross out the names and addresses of all the people you do not know.

Jan. 26: Review past Christmas shows and try to understand why Julia Child was much beloved even though her croquembouche was very much askew.

Jan. 28: Attend workshop on obsessive-compulsive disorders. Take verbatim notes.

Jan. 31: Gild lilies.

(Once again, I don't know the author but I can only thank him/her sincerely)

I can't believe I've never read one of Maya Angelou's books. I've meant to but never have. I just made a note to find one of her books on Amazon or eBay.

Jujube, that was so funny!

I should make the resolution not to bring any sweets into the house in 2016. That would be good for both of us here. Not sure if I will or not though.

Funny you should ask, fureverywhere! I resolved a couple of weeks ago to start eating healthier. No more processed stuff, going vegetarian for the most part. If I happen to lose weight it will be a bonus!

I usually make resolutions but not this year. I never go through with them so I have them in mind but not committing to making a mistake.

It's never too early to initiate a positive change.
I resolve to somehow work a new used car into my finances this year.

My resolution though is to find a new job. And I'm still hoping a suitable nice mobile home will come up for sale. I've been looking since May and nothing.

Interesting that you and Fur, mention Miss Angelou, I've always enjoyed reading her books, she's also from my mom's hometown, pretty sure she knew many of the same people in the area. Prior to Maya's death, I had thought I read all of her books, but came across a couple of titles recently I hadn't, so last week I checked them out of the library. "Rainbow in the Cloud" and "Mom & Me & Mom" I'll get around to reading them after I'm finished with the book I'm presently reading by another author. :)

I ought to resolve to give up drinking. But what would I do with the galons of wine already made up? Can't sell it, don't know legality of giving it away, bit higher alcohol content and I suppose I could burn it in my car, mixed with gasoline! :( imp

You could have a wine tasting party imp. Tell everyone in the neighborhood to bring cheese and crackers and call it a "Getting to know my neighbors" party.

That's neat April. I mentioned her because Fur made me think of her books. :) I've seen her on Oprah and always planned to get a book, but if I don't write it down, I don't remember to do it. She seemed like a real strong wise lady.

Um....thinking this over. Closest neighbor lives in California, uses the house next door to us only infrequently, a short spell at a time. Next guy just got divorced and moved out.....

Going further away, just don't know, anybody. imp

I know what you mean. With work I just don't have the time to clean. No energy on my days off. I have to force myself to keep up with cleaning.

Since I've retired I've actually gotten WORSE about housekeeping. "I'll do it tomorrow" is easier to say when you actually COULD do it tomorrow.

Maybe my resolution should actually be not to beat myself up over becoming a sloth at housekeeping.

I agree with you Butterfly. All of us who ever feel guilty about not getting enough done or beat ourselves up over it, should resolve not to do that anymore! Do the best you can and don't worry about what is left undone. Enjoy life.

Don't make any resolutions anymore. When I was younger I made ones like stop smoking or lose weight. I never followed through for that New Year, but did do those things at other times when I was ready.
