Travelers are Going Bonkers

Last weekend, while waiting to board my flight to Jacksonville from Dulles International, two men about 25 started talking louder and louder at each other. It almost came to a screaming match. All I could pick up was something about the daughter the 1 man was holding and she was swinging her legs and kicking the other man’s son in the head. He told his son to move a few times, but she still kept swinging her legs and kicking the boy in the head or face area.

Finally, the man with the boy asked the dad with the girl if he could move a bit so his daughter wouldn’t kick him. This started a ruckus and other passengers started yelling at each other too. I knew this wasn’t going to turn out good, so I went back to my seat and sat down. Someone must have called security because 3 airport police showed up and took them all away.

If that wasn’t bad enough, on the ride down to Jacksonville, we had been in the air for maybe an hour when this lady started screaming about not getting anything to drink. I heard the flight attendant tell her that she was asleep when they got to her, so she was missed.

Just to shut her up, I offered to buy her a cocktail, but she didn’t want that, she wanted her Diet Sprite. The flight attendant tried to tell her that the drinks had all been put away, except for the mixers. So now she starts yelling profanities. The male flight attendant got her to shut up, but when we arrived in Jacksonville, there were 2 cops waiting to take her away.

Have people actually lost their minds traveling by air? I never saw anything like that happen on a train.

Good for him!
Re the OP: Yes, I've noticed there have been more and more reports about people being rude, disruptive and even behaving in dangerous manners on flights. I wouldn't blame you if you felt a bit frightened during the escalation Been There. All this nonsense gives me more reasons not to fly. It would have to be a dire, dire emergency regarding a close family member for me to fly again. My closest relatives live in the same town as me and don't travel too often so hopefully it's not something I'll ever have to deal with.

I wish I would have thought of doing that. I flew for United for 33 years and I would be lying if I said I never had any issues onboard a flight, but the few I did have, either myself or a member of my flight crew handled most of the skirmishes. We never had to return to the departing airport.

I remember the flight from Miami to Denver when two women got into a scuffle because the one women’s child wouldn’t stop kicking her seat in front of her. The other women had asked the flight attendant to ask the child’s mom to take care of it and the f/a told the mom not to allow her child to kick the woman’s seat. That lasted for about 15 minutes.

The women sitting in the chair that was being kicked stood up and yelled at the mom to teach her kid some manners. That upset the mom and she yelled back at her. The other women then threw her drink in the mom’s face. The next thing that happened was the two women were going at it in the aisle. We had to separate them and have them met by the police when we got to Denver. That’s one of the worse incidents we had.

The other was a drunk that brought his own bottle onboard and kept spilling his booze on the lady sitting next to her. She finally had enough and took his bottle and dumped it on his head. He grabbed the lady and the man sitting next to the lady tried to protect her and him and the drunk got into a fight. That was another arrest when we arrived in LA. We also had two people smoke cigarettes in the lavatories, which also brought about arrests.

I have come to the conclusion that people don’t either understand rules or they think the rules don’t apply to them.

I hear things are worse these days.

I get phone calls all the time from pilots that have issues with passengers. The other night a pilot called and told me he had two gay men yelling at each other and it was disturbing the other passengers. I think the men were married and the verbal disagreement was over where they were going have dinner after we landed in New York.

The one man kicked the other man and the fight was on. A few other male passengers joined in trying to separate the two men and people were yelling and screaming. Luckily, we had an Air Marshall onboard who cuffed both of the men and then arrested them when we landed. They both had dinner in a New York jail. Problem solved.

Keep this all to yourself or the airlines might start charging more for the entertainment.

I can just see the commercials now, "Never a dull flight!"

I remember when as a child........... My siblings and I were taken to nice restaurants and airplane trips we were always told not to make a scene or anything ..now days it seems to be a sport of how crazy can you get....

imagine if the lady was on a business trip and had to explain to her employer being arrested over a diet sprite.,, maybe having to come back for court or being bailed out etc...what sort of fine or something she could have gotten.
Or explaining to family / friends etc no one seems to have a sense of shame it is one thing to excuse a drunk but these people are often cold sober.
it is far more likely to be seen by people who do KNOW you then ever through social media.
they can be banned from an airline and have to work around that for all future travel ......all over a soda ? I think mandatory mental health sessions are in order.

My first commercial flight was the first day of June, 1954 when I was 9mos old. Even got a certificate from American Airlines.
The flight was from Oakland California to Dallas Texas and I'm sure I might have cried a bit but no one threw a drink in my mom's face.
The stewardess, Dee Bruce, convinced my mom to let her take care of me LOL. If I remember correctly ... she was kind of cute ;)

How adorable!

The increasing friction between people kind of reminds me of an experiment some scientists did many years ago. They put a limited number of mice into a contained area and just let them go about their everyday life without interference - including having offspring. Gradually the population expanded until it started to get crowded. There began multiple episodes of increasingly violent friction between them
I just wonder if some areas of our country aren't becoming more heavily populated than some people are able to tolerate. We were at one time in our history able to produce multiple children because so many died at very young ages. That isn't happening so much now. We don't need to produce so many children (I realize I am equally guilty - I had 4 children)
I find it difficult to understand why anyone in this day and age would need 10 children!

Pappy—-That was really very funny. After the man kicked the other man, he mooned his friend right there on the plane. The Air Marshall told me if he hadn’t done that, he planned to let them go once we got inside the terminal. However, when he mooned his friend, he had no choice but to arrest the both of them. I asked the Air Marshall to cut them a break, but he told me he couldn’t because under FAA rules, any passengers that were charged with indecent behavior had to be arrested. So they both ate dinner that night in the city jail.

Ha, ha, ha to why anyone wold need 10 children. I used to live in a town full of Mennonites. There were Mennonite immigrants from Germany with as many as 14 kids. No kidding! The women were just "baby machines."

Seems the church loves these "monster" families. More kids=more new members for the church=more money for the church. Ya, no kidding! It's not about that guy they call GOD; it's all about the almight Dollar $$$$$.

Sorry if this offends anyone. Many folks don't like to hear the truth? They prefer fairy tales!
