Traveling across the US by car/van

About to hit the road for my trip out west. I mentioned a few weeks ago I planned to visit relatives in Santa Fe, NM and some in Las Vegas. Going to hang out in Sedona/Flagstaff for a couple of days and go by the Grand Canyon. On the way back planning to go to Zion/Bryce Parks but I see this morning there have been flash foods in Zion killing several people. Very sad for those families. That portion of the trip is the end of next week so will have to evaluate the conditions at the time.

We're leaving this coming Friday for the same area also.

If you are at Zion, you are not that far from the north rim of the Grand Canyon, very different from the south rim.

Back from my trip out west. Didn't see Bryce canyon as originally planned. Went to the Arches instead. But will see it maybe next year. Great trip, traveled over 4k miles.

I'm pretty much a point and shoot photographer so not the greatest pics. First one is of the Grand Canyon, then Zion Park and a couple from the Arches.

rider 1046, like you, I've been enjoying my V10 gasser motor home. Spent last winter out west pulling a 24 foot trailer with car, motorcycle and assorted stuff within... Oct to May and stayed in only one campground. (tombstone). Rest of the time was BLM, wally world, or truck stops. kept close look on mileage, and ended up averaging 7.4 overall. We used solar panels and inverter to run our spare freezer and that allowed us to save money on food. Plus, Nothing beats the view through the big window. DSC00866.jpgYuma blm.jpg

It seems September was the month to hit the road for some of us. Wifey and I just got home yesterday from a two week motorhome adventure from our home in Kalifornistan to see the kids in Denver a few days, then drove east to Pittsburg, KS to try out Chicken Mary's, one of two famous chicken restaurants with very interesting stories. I learned about them on the Travel Channel and promised myself a visit long ago.

After the two day drive for a chicken dinner (I'm a bit unbalanced when it comes to fried chicken) we drove down to Arkansas and visited some of Wifey's kin we hadn't see in a few years. We then headed home via I-40 over several days, averaging about 400 miles a day.

I took hundreds of photos, and posted some of them on my website so I'll avoid posting any here. If you're interested in too many photos and waaay too many words, check my site. It's a Wordpress site, my domain is fishwisher.com and it will forward to the site. Our travels are listed in order down the right side column of the page. I named my site FishWisher back in my fishing days so the name is a bit out of date.

And in three weeks I'll be heading to the San Diego area for my quarterly visit with my son and family. Life is good with an RV!

With retirement fast approaching, I'm starting to think about doing this road trip. Not sure if it will be in 2016 or not, but in the course of doing some preliminary research, I came across a website called Furkot.com, which is a free site for trip planning. Anyone used this site? Looks really interesting. Looks like it will be helpful in my planning.
