Trick or Treaters - What do You Give Them

Last week I bought the Nestle variety pack box of 100 snacks. Today I was looking at the box of small bags of potato chips and pondering whether I’d like them too. You have to be prepared to eat up what you buy. 🤭

I just heard that Reeses Pieces are most popular treat in the US.

Haven't had a trick or treater for at least 10 years, and that was 4 or 5 houses ago. Currently in a gated, 55+ community, so none here. But I suppose I should buy a couple of giant bags of chocolate candy, you know, just in case. Hershey's and Reese's...

For over 30 years, we celebrated, went out to dress up parties, then we did the parties at home once we got our munchkins. Hubby got a large pumpkin, I found the stencil patterns we wanted for that particular year and he'd carve away.

Every year without fail, we had people asking if they could take pics of our carved pumpkins. We bought a mixture of candies, gummies and more.

I'd make up wee individual bags for all. If we were in the same place long enough, we'd see regulars coming back for our special treat bags. I made two to three pumpkin pies from carved pumpkin.

Once, we'd moved here, we got everything ready but no tricks or treaters, so we gave up. Out of respect for son and hubby, there was two years where we didn't celebrate but did a Wiccan ritual instead.

This weekend and including the 31st itself, we have our favourite foods for open buffet, Lambrini and cranberry juice, a glass pumpkin full of Haribo gummies and a stream of films and TV series to watch.

Tonight, it's the Good Witch series with Catherine Bell.

Happy All Hallows Eve...

In my cul de sac, we're all geezers-no kids. The lots in my development are all 1 acre+ size lots. So, if you want a big bag of candy, you're going to have to hoof it a lot- that's way too much for little kids. And now, it's more throw the kids in the car and only trick or treat at the homes of known friends and family.
I've only had one trick or treater in 30 years. I gave him a few bucks in change, he liked that. It doesn't take long for kids to realize money is a good thing. I wouldn't mind having a bunch of kids coming to the house.

Do you happen to have any pictures of the pumpkins your hubby craved? It would be a treat to see them.

In the country, no one goes door to door. The neighbor next to us has some little kids, so I'll put together some bags to drop off for them.

The last two years we handed out candy at the house my SIL was living in. We'll go there to hand out Haribo gummies & Cheese-It snack bags this year to.

My friend who is very generous with everything else always said she doesn’t give out candy because they didn’t celebrate Halloween in England. The other day I heard her mumble her real reason - it’s the holiday of the devil. Wow.

I bought a smaller bag this year. I always have leftovers and it starts the "big eat" from Halloween through New Year's.
When this bag is gone
..lights out.

Snack sized candy bars, but everybody gets at least 2 or 3.

I can't wait for them this year - our first Halloween in the new neighborhood. We weren't allowed to give out treats at the apartments, which was a huge disappointment, so I'd give them out at my son's house while he & his wife were out doing the rounds with their kids.

I love to see the kids' costumes and wish them all a Happy Halloween. I usually dress up, too, and they love it. And so do I.

The neighbors told me we'll only get 6 or 7 groups of kids, but that's way better than none.

I prefer the p'nut-butter cups, myself. And I have plenty.

As a kid, I always hated the people that gave out apples. I wouldn’t be able to afford those now; they’re almost $1 each. And they always went in the garbage. The next worst were those candy kisses.

Pardon the pun Jules, but how sweet of you! 🤗
