Trying To Fight Father Time!

Hi. I’m 72 and in pretty good shape for my age playing a lot of golf and working out. When up north in the summers I golf with a push cart and am having a harder time keeping my endurance up. Some of my rounds on hot days burn close to 2000 total calories. I walk a inclined treadmill to mimic my golf and weight lift. This past year I’ve incorporated electrolytes and nutrition through the round of golf.
i’m looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience and found a fitness program that successfully increased their endurance.
Thank you
Greg

Welcome from Pennsylvania. You seem to already have an admirable amount of endurance at 72. I'm 78 and I think I'm fit for my age as well, but time takes it's toll. I used to zip thru mowing the lawn nonstop, but breaks are required now. Try googling "endurance decline with age".

Why does endurance decrease with age?
One big reason we see declines in aerobic (or endurance) athletic performance with age is that our bodies can't use oxygen as effectively. ... That is, they can do more endurance work for their body weight. In the general population, VO2max tends to decline by about 10% per decade after the age of 30.Jul 6, 2015

Hi Greg,
Welcome to the forum.
I've been a runner for most of my life but have been using an indoor cycle the last couple of years.
During time trials I can keep my heart rate over 180 for an hour, and have a resting heart rate in the low to mid 40s.
My experience is the opposite of yours, as I'm faster than most others my age over distance, but not as fast in the sprints.

Personally I think seniors can lose strength and speed with age, but comparative endurance shouldn't change that much.
This probably depends on how much and what kind of training you're doing. Like you, I eat and use more than 2000 calories a day.
I'm curious what workouts you do. Perhaps a fitness thread is a good place to continue that discussion.

No golf, but, with 38 acres of land to maintain, firewood to cut, split, stack and lug, Gravel that needs shoveling, cattle that need tending, grass that needs cutting and weed eating, and bush hogging the rest, it manages to keep me and the missus in shape. Throw in the garden and helping a friend take care of his 2 homes, and we stay kinda busy.
I guess it wasn't enough as we've just managed to purchase another house down in Florida. :)
Looking forward to heading down there and putting in a sprinkler system and laying some sod down.
