TV Ads for Christmas

I don't know where this should go, "Entertainment" or "News"
or here, if it should be moved, feel free to do so.

Over here all the large chains have Christmas Ads and we
all judge them, there is no prize other than they had the
best Ad this year etc.

For several years now John Lewis has had the best ones, but
this year there is a new kid on the block, literally, a 2 year old
is in an Advert for his family hardware business that has been
around the Welsh market town of Rhayader since 1895 and
for the past few years they have made their own advert for the
TV at this time of the year.

This year Tom, the father of Arthur Jones, the little boy got his
friend to help, they got a singer in New York to record the song
and that cost £80 for a sound engineer.

That link is the video and the one below is the Daily Mail story.

Mike.

Sorry I don't like adds. That is why I cut the cable 16 years ago. Most of them are geared for the brain dead. Sometimes I put the TV on in a motel room & I just shake my head at the stupidity that some people watch. It really is a situation of "500 channels & nothin' to watch". Give me my ROKU anytime: subtitles & no advertising on Britbox or Acorn. Some people love adverising. Apparently they vote on the best adds during the Rose Bowl. Go figure! Good for some but not good for me.

I mute Ads I cant be bothered with on our commercial channels. We have a M&S ad this year for their knitwear and I like it it's quite funky imo. Waitrose do a nice one and a couple of others I like. What I cant tolerate is the continual furniture ads we get around Christmas...grrr!😠

I cannot stand Adverts, I record everything I watch on the commercial channels so I can FF'd through them all..thank goodness we have the choice of the BBC and no commercial channels ..however, I do get a kick out of watching some of the Christmas Adverts, just once or twice.. and this one you've posted Mike, is cute, and good on that little family business I hope the advert makes them rich, we need little family businesses to stay on the high street as much as we can..

That said, I doubt very much it cost £100 to make.... the royalties alone on that song track would have cost a fortune, and a sound engineer much more than £80..but if that's what they want people to believe fair enough..it's still a lot less than the millions spent by the huge conglomerates..

I wish them well, and hope they get a lot more custom from it...

I agree, The January sales are the very worst time for Furniture ads. What makes these companies believe that having spent a fortune at Christmas that the average family will want to buy a new sofa, ?

Holly, because it probably pays off, otherwise they wouldn't do it. Unfortunately, advertising seems to work.

I am also a big fan of the mute button. But mostly I watch the premium streaming channels anyway, so I don't get ads, except for the news on CNN.

On day time telly here we get lots of ads for funeral plans with a TV celeb Michael Parkinson also various charities asking for support and donations, talk about depressing.:cautious: I rarely watch daytime telly as i dont have the time and the progs. are samey and too many ro list.

Yes I could do this, never thought to as I never look to see what's on the commercial channels during the day as its usually so predictable programme wise.
