TV Cooking Shows

I use to love watching Julia Child and Graham Kerr back in the 50s.
Julia was so funny when she messed up but she really knew her way around the kitchen.
Graham Kerr use to drink more wine while he was cooking than what he put in the recipe.
I don't watch any cooks on tv these days.

Why have so many of these degenerated into competitions? They don't demonstrate how to prepare food, just a lot of running around, blundering and frustration.
I prefer the older shows like Racheal Ray and Bobby Flay and Emeril, where the host is actually cooking. The competition shows appear to be a bit contrived, I can usually pick who's going to be the 'winner'....
Some shows seem to shill for special interests, promoting excessive use of butter and sugar.

you need to find channels with cooks that actually show you how to cook. i used to watch rachel ray and paula dean and i like the stay at home chef.
(4907) The Stay At Home Chef - YouTube

Cooking is my hobby. Over the years I have shared some of my recipes and cooking suggestions with many professional cooks on youtube and have gotten many positive replies. One day I attempted to share an idea with Stay at Home Chef and she made an insulting reply. Rather than get into an argument I deleted my suggestion. To this day I remain puzzled as to why it set off such infantile insecurities in her.

These shows have all become competitions to save money, they
only have to pay the staff, supply the ingredients, (usually) and
give the contestants some expenses, much cheaper than making
a proper show.

I think.

Mike.
