The powerful son of Iran’s slain supreme leader emerged today as a front-runner to succeed him as the U.S. stepped up its military campaign against Tehran and NATO air defenses destroyed a missile heading from Iran into Turkish airspace
The missile incident reported by Turkey was the first time a NATO member has been drawn into the Middle East conflict, but U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said there was no sense that it would trigger NATO’s collective defense clause.

The Iranians must be crazy or desperate or both to attack Türkiye. Turkey worked very hard to get the USA and Israel to NOT attack Iran.

The Turks have a reputation as being fierce warriors. They also have a huge army because they live in a rather tough neighborhood. It’s my guess that things are a lot worse in Iran than the Iranian goverment is letting on. Otherwise, why anger a powerful neighbor?

What do I know? Nothing. Your guess is as good or maybe better than mine.

Hubby and I toured Turkiye in 2000 to get away from the Sydney Olympics. We decided to visit Gallipoli instead.

Our guide was very well educated and informative on a lot more than antiquity. He warned us about taking photos of any military installation if we did not want to spend time in a Turkish gaol.

He told us that as Australians we were very lucky not to have difficult neighbours and showed us a map of Turkiye surrounded by Greece, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, and Syria. His point was well taken by all of us Aussies.

I have to say that at no time did Hubby and I feel unsafe while on that tour and the Turks were very friendly towards us.
