I would agree there is a lot of unnecessary rhetoric, falsehoods and misinformation on social media. If it is truly that bad, just shut social media down.

Oh wait!... How would the government control us, without their falsehoods and misinformation? Pot/Kettle! /s

we have precisely the same here... too many migrants legal and illegal.. no housing, no infrastructure , no integration...or interaction for the most part...school filled to busting with children who can't speak English, teachers leaving the profession in their droves.. no extra doctors, hospitals, dentists, no extra schools..

At least in Canada you have more space.. here in the UK we're a tiny Island, smaller than Oregon.. and a population of almost 70 million and that's not counting the ones we don't know about... and they reckon there's another at least a million hiding in people sheds and garages, and basements.....so when you think you're being dumped on, just imagine what it would be like if you lived in our little space..with all these people..and everywhere you go the language is something other than English..

Exactly the same in Germany with only one difference. A doctor's appointment for a medical specialist is between 3 to 6 months, not 8 months or more as in the UK. For example as I needed it for a neurologist it was 3.5 months. But the waiting period is getting longer here too.

At any given time, there are a quarter million empty homes in the UK. The housing crisis isn't caused by immigrants, it's caused by a system that relies on the price of homes to increase exponentially year after year. We're increasingly at a point where wages are too low, and people can't afford to buy, let alone rent.

If we got rid of all the immigrants, there'd be even fewer Doctors, dentists etc. 18% of NHS doctors are foreign. 30% of Dentists trained abroad.

The UK has plenty of land to build on, but successive governments have forced local authorities to sell their housing stock without providing funds to replace it. It's a total farce, and could be dealt with if we wanted to. We don't, because maintaining house prices is more important.

I think nobody wants to get rid of all immingrants, but of criminal immigrants. This makes a big difference. Here in Germany the knife stabbings rise to astronomical numbers, the rapes and gang rapes also. A lot of teachers at school quit their job because of violence from migrant kids, the same in kindergarten.
All of these criminal people should leave Western countries as quick as possible!

After the attack from Hamas on Isreal, it was Pakistan which even drove all of the so called Palestinian people out of their country. Not with busses but on foot. This is the proper solution of these problems! This could only mean that they suspected all of them could commit criminal acts. Thus Pakistan was even much more severe with it's politics on migrants than Western countries. They know why.

The vessel type is irrelevant.

The UK are signatories to what is known as the " 1951 Refugee Convention".

To quote: "Core principles of the 1951 Convention

The document outlines the basic minimum standards for the treatment of refugees, including the right to housing, work and education while displaced so they can lead a dignified and independent life."

This is enshrined in international law. As it UN Human Rights agreements.

The UK is the target location for 1% of immigrants worldwide. Most - over 70% - end up in the developing world.

Hey George.

No-one wants criminals coming to the country. The main problem we seem to have today is two fold. Firstly, it takes too long to process Asylum Seekers. There is a huge backlog, and it's causing the bad ones to stay longer than they should. Secondly, in order to do background checks on people you need access to systems that records crimes and such. Yet many of the countries Asylum Seekers are leaving don't have it. This leads to backlogs, of course.

As for your Hamas comment, assuming it's true, I think what Pakistan did was/is horrendous. I mean, Pakistan can talk! The idea that every supporter of Hamas were "suspected" of some crime is ludicrous.
 
After doing some referencing, I found that in 2023, 400 people in Russia were arrested for criticizing the government in Russia on social media sites while approximately 3300 were held or arrested in the U.K. for the same. I found these statistics on Reddit, which did not allow me to copy the website.

I am not certain how correct or accurate these numbers are because they were posted on Reddit.

I asked Google the question; “How many people were arrested in Russia for criticizing the government on social media”
“How many people were arrested in the U.K. for criticizing the government on social media”

My tax dollars are going to help these “asylum seekers” as many have become public charges. Normal immigration procedures require that a person shows they will not become a public charge. I know. I had to show adequate personal income and medical insurance for my two children who are immigrants. Otherwise, no deal.]

It is a mistake, to conflate people who immigrate to this country using the usually and customary process, with the mish-mash that is going on at the Southern Border.

Our government can’t get a handle on the mess at the souther border due to politics as usual. There is plenty of blame to go around for all sides in regards to the Southern border. Meanwhile current and potentially new citizens suffer.

This is true for Germany also. Many police officers don't like that their chiefs give them orders with which they disagree. It is rumored that there is a lot of anger within the police.

When the U.S. had riots in 2020, many of the larger cities police departments were given orders to stand down against the rioters and looters. This could have been done for the safety of the Officers or it could have been a political stunt.

I would imagine that the police involved in those instances where the rioters where going right up to the police and getting in their face shouting obscenities had to want to take action. I don’t know if I could have taken the abuse some of them did. There were some rioters spitting on the police and that act would make them fair game. IOW, the police should have been able to defend themselves or retaliate by arresting them.

As a retired state trooper, I can understand why so many cops quit. Although I hope I wouldn’t have quit, I didn’t blame those that did quit. Many of those Officers had families that depended on them and their income to sustain their lives, so staying alive was vastly important. It’s a damned if you do or damned if you don’t type of thing.

I know 2 NYPD Officers that quit at that time, but then were rehired the following year. Both told me they didn’t regret quitting, but people need to understand we didn’t quit because we were afraid, we quit because we were on the brink of hurting people and then we would have been fired for insubordination because we were ordered to stand down, unless our life was threatened.
