Unexpected Consequences

Aunt Mavis

I have met the enemy and he is us. Pogo
Automatic lights seemed like a great idea on your automobile right? I’ve seen probably 100 cars in my little neck of the woods driving at night with only those on, no taillights. Driver error but unexpected consequence.
Portable grinders are everything, I have a DeWalt that’s great for limited uses. The thieves absolutely love these too because with the right blade they can cut through almost any security device, fence or etc in just seconds. Unexpected consequence.
I’ll think of others.

Billions of masks floating in our oceans was definitely an unexpected consequence of Covid-19, so was the millions of new addicts (free money and free time, duh) and mental health patients. Take those figures to the bank!

Security cameras. I have been reading about how great they are for possibly deterring thieves, but they are also good for invasion of privacy. And don't get me started on drones.
The Electric Eye is everywhere now. Don’t try donkey kicking that car that door-dinged yours unless you’re wearing a mask, then you’ll be good. HeeHaw! Crunch!

Hand sanitizer is now a scourge on the earth. I have an illness that makes me sensitive to artificially scented products, and it seems every package that gets delivered needs to be aired out. Walking into doctor's offices and waiting rooms I nearly gag at the cloud of scented sanitizer hanging in the air; at those times masks come in handy, lol.

I just don't understand why perfectly healthy people are seduced into using these devices! I remember when I was in college studying health care devices and how impressed I was to learn about things for the handicapped to use, and how these things are now being marketed as if they are luxuries.

Another thumbs down for excess artificial scents! Recently I bought a bag of “scented” trash bags because that was all that was available due to shortages. I put it in the kitchen can, and a few days later I noticed that I was sneezing a lot and my eyes burning when I sat at the nearby table. I finally made the connection and got a pack of unscented. Disposed of the one in use and wrapped up the rest to give to whoever wants them.

We must be thinking on different things here. Most new cars have automatic lights that switch on the head & tail lights when the light level falls.
Of course this can be switched off, but I find it good as you don't forget to switch on the lights as it gets dark.
Not so keen on automatic wipers!

Do you seriously believe that was unexpected?

Driving lights are what I’m referring to.(I should have been more clear) They come on automatically and mistakenly folks take off at night with these on instead of headlights. No taillights if they do. I’ve seen it more times than 100 but I thought that was a nice round figure. It’s a mistake in engineering they didn’t expect obviously.

Now I hate automatic toilets such as what many store public bathrooms have. Granted that many people are pigs who don’t flush the commode when finished, but these toilets flush loudly in response to a sensor that is easily triggered, often by the slightest motion you make while on the seat and always when standing up from one. If you’re not expecting a roaring flush, it can be unnerving!

Automatic sink water and paper towel dispensers are other pet peeves. They seldom give you enough of either, and don’t get me started on air hand dryers in public baths! 😖

At least 25 percent of the time, one of the dispensers doesn’t work I swear. Good post.

My vehicles have driving lights, which only the headlights stay on all the time. If I turn th headlight dial to “Auto” both headlight and taillights come on when the light of day lessens to the point where the electric eye is factory set to turn on the lights.

A car that can open a garage, can be used if someone gets access to the car

Thermostats control by the government, if you have one, make sure it's disconnected from your Wifi.

They got rid of the auto toilets around here...too many accidentally flushed smart phones...lol.

Burning fossil fuels to the point that air pollution is killing people and possibly will kill most of us. Unexpected consequence of the Industrial revolution.
That’s a good one. I thought about the damming of the rivers too, at the time it seemed like the thing to do. Space junk is another. The list just goes on and on. Boo.

I virtually never use hand sanitizer - yuk. Here's what I don't understand: Why is it so often placed next to a sink? If there's access to soap and water why would anyone choose sanitizer?
