Uninvited "help"?

Sounds like we shop at the same store although we're half a continent apart.
And regarding putting the groceries in the trunk - -same here. The cart guy may come by and will offer to help but if you say, "no, I've got it' , he'll wait and take the cart when you're finished.
 

I'd have said, "No thanks...I've got it."
His boss probably told him to offer to help, thinking people would like shopping there more.
 

What would I do?? I'd do nothing and not be stewing over something so trivial. Next time just do what you want and be assertive. And to those saying "talk to the manager,"; good grief. The guy probably makes minimum wage at a sh!t job so why try to make his life worse than it already is.

If everyone could stop being offended by EVERYTHING, life would be so much easier.

C'est Moi, I didn't say I was "stewing" or "offended;" I said in my first sentence that this was mildly annoying. Mainly I was just confused as to the tipping issue. Many of you have answered that one for me; thank you.

The carts at this particular supermarket are left in the parking lot because the management of the plaza, which is next to our senior community, does not allow space to be used for those carrells, I think they're called, for leaving the carts lined up. The supermarket is Giant, a huge chain, and none of the other Giants have this policy, that I can detect. I wish they'd change that. (It's very convenient, though, being right next door.)

Le Jones mentioned an autistic family member who works in a store like this. Our local Giant has an employee with obvious Downs syndrome who made me realize that Downs probably covers a wide spectrum of people, some with (apparently) normal intelligence. What a thing that must be to have to live with! At least, this guy has a job, that he seems to enjoy and be good at.

My Frys has at least two, a young guy and an older woman. They're a little slow and the cashier always helps them do some of the bagging.
 
Getting runaway carts in the parking lot isn't a prestige job, but somebody has to do it. So, if Mr. Assistant Sales Division Manager is the one to do it, he may not be terribly pleased. He may just want to get it over, and go back to assistant managing something. Who knows? He may just wanted to help a motherly senior?
That's happened to me. None of them ever accepted a tip.
 
My store will get someone to go to your car with you and load your groceries into your trunk.

I needed this service twice. Tried to tip but both times it was refused and they explained they were not allowed to accept a tip.
 
Stores in So Cal don't permit tipping. If people don't return their carts to the front of the store I can see this guy's point. You're there, he's there, he wants to grab the cart while it's convenient.

When I'm asked if I want help putting the groceries in my car I usually reply by saying that getting them from the cart to the car isn't the problem. It's getting them from the car to the kitchen to the cabinets and fridge that takes the most time and effort. That usually gets a chuckle and a nod of agreement, but they get the message that I don't need assistance.
 
I would have said just wait a minute then you can have the trolley --its not worth worry about tipping in a store car park '
up to him -if he's in such a hurry up''' but certainly NO tipping ' !!!!!!!!!

I like to put my own bags in the trunk. I have been offered help by store employees but have refused and they accepted that without argument or interference. I don't know what I'd do if one insisted except be more forceful.

I solved that problem, it's been quite a few months now I have my heavy cat food and 40lbs cat litter delivered by Walmart. I just have to spend over $35, that's no problem with my 14 cats.

I used to have 3 cats then adopted two stray mothers with baby kittens that came into my yard. I always keep bowls of water and dry food for strays. I also have a Desert Tortoise and made her a burrow in the back yard (she's now sleeping away until March). Yes, my cats are indoor cats, I've seen too many cats dead on the roads and we have coyotes and stray dogs. Here's some of my cats & tort. I bring them grass in the summer, cats love chewing on grass.

They're all adults now, the youngest are 3 years old. What can I say, I love animals more than people.

Would you believe that the big 20lbs black cat, Ninja, on the cat tree is the black kitten in the second picture? Lol And he's a sweetheart!

Wonderful, fabulous pics! I love cats! I have only two, and they make such a mess with their puking, shedding, ETC. What's the mess like for you? I'd love to have more cats, but sometimes having two is too much. I get over that fast though when I see how cute and silly they are and how nice it is to do things for them, like hugs & kisses.

Our Krogers has 3 employees that have learning disabilities. If Daniel is rounding up carts when I arrive, he will holler at me to stay and then he will bring me an electric cart as I walk with a cane. He is so proud of his job and will ask if I need help. If I have several 12 packs of cokes I will let him load for me. I always keep several ones in my console and will give him a couple. Sometimes I don't have any and I say thank you and he says your welcome and goes on his way, He is one of the happiest people I see there. He doesn't expect a tip and is grateful when I give him one. I always mention him on my satisfaction survey as being helpful!
