Stop 2 : Old Gasworks House​

Would you believe me if I told you that this Old Gasworks House in Hrensko is actually a hotel? Like, how amazing would it be to actually stay here? And it’s not even that expensive! Just €90/night! There is definitely something eery about this stone inn from 1905. Looking at the top window it even looks like an eye is peeping out of the house. But besides all of that it remains one of the coolest places to snap some amazing photos!

So as I said before this mystery house was originally built in 1905 and served as an industrial site for production of acetylene gas which was used for lighting. It was built of hand-carved sandstone blocks in the style of a medieval castle. But as electrification proceeded the production was shut down and the building was left abandoned. It has since then been resold twice. Once with false promises of restoring it to it’s former glory (that did not work out). And a second time with the promise to renovate it in it’s original style by only using a 100 year old photo. I think it worked out really well!

The lower level has a garage (with show spaces that rotate 180 degrees, of course) and a guest suite. There is also 1,200 square feet of fixed, non-rotating deck on the lot that is just more than a half-acre.
Inside, there are four bedrooms and three bathrooms, all with a bit of a retro feel. The walls are a light pink, it’s kind of modern but with a 1980s vibe.

With a switch, you can control everything. A 1.5-horsepower motor moves 16-inch drive wheels on a track, rotating the house. You don't really feel the motion. You’re seeing the view and trees and then in five minutes, you're seeing a different view.

The house was completed in 2004 and is built to withstand fires and earthquakes and has 43 solar panels, an elevator, and smart home technology throughout.

Needless to say, the innovative design has gotten plenty of attention over the years. HGTV featured the house on an episode of “Home Strange Home.”

I saw the episode on which this house was featured. The engineering for these types of homes is fascinating. This is my kind of house. If it wasn't in Cali, I'd ask to borrow money from some of our SF members so I could purchase it. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: I wonder why it's being sold.

I think the owners are up in years. My guess is they must be downsizing.

After a hard frost, huh? Now you're talking. Don't know where to have a bonfire - it looks pretty densely wooded. Not to mention that with all the wildfires the world has been seeing, I'd be hard pressed to enjoy one.
