I agree that the subject itself is a current event and should be permissible if it stays that way. But sure as I'm sitting here, someone's going to mention names of politicians or political parties and screw it up for those of us who would be fine discussing it like adults. And experience almost tells the few it will be.

Iran has attacked US military bases across the Middle East in 'revenge strikes' after the US targeted Iran's Supreme Leader in joint attacks with Israel.
Tehran has struck the Fifth Fleet service centre in Manama, Bahrain, and claims to have hit bases across the region including in Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait.
Dubai, Iraq and Jordan have all also reported various missile activity so far on Saturday.

The world awoke to the outbreak of major conflict in the Middle East today, after the US and Israel launched joint 'pre-emptive strikes' against Iran. This prompted a widespread response from the Islamic nation, which has seen violence unfold in countries across the Middle East.So far today:
- The US and Israel launched joint strikes against military and political leaders in Iran, dubbing them 'pre-emptive' to prevent Iran from gaining a nuclear weapon;
- Iran has hit back, sending missiles to Israel, as well as targeting US bases and other assets in the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai, Jordan and Kuwait;
- Missiles have also struck US-Israeli targets in Lebanon and Iraq;
- There are reports the head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards has been killed, while Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was also targeted - his condition is unknown;
- Global leaders have urged restraint while reiterating that Iran must not gain a nuclear weapon;

I was watching Flightradar24 earlier this morning. No air traffic at all over Iraq, Iran, or Syria and then the site went down because so many people were watching. It's back now though... interesting to watch.

I didn't mean to sound discouraging. There's just been so many threads that start out benign however they descend into a political war.
Let's all try to monitor this thread.

Don't think it will last long enough to be called a war. More like an intense battle. The Iranian military will quickly start hiding among the people and their pilots know better than to go up against US and Israel pilots.

There is no indication that this will be a long conflict. We can assume the plan was to deliver a devastating attack that would take out their ability to fight for long. But that is what it is, an assumption. Iran has enemies abroad and within. Its own populous is against them. So it really does not stand a chance.
