United States of Idiocracy

Here's an excerpt from Max Boot's column in today's paper. The column is called "Welcome to the United States of Idiocracy." The column discusses that fact that our covid-19 rate is soaring like crazy, while in other wealthy democracies, it is plummeting. Here's part of the reason:

An Ohio state legislator said, “I don’t want to cover people’s faces” because “we’re created in the image and likeness of God.” A Palm Beach, Fla., woman complained that masks “throw God’s wonderful breathing system out the door,” while a fellow Palm Beach resident denounced mask advocates for “practicing the Devil’s law.” A North Carolina woman burned a mask, complaining that it represented “nanny state overreach.” Wait till these freedom-lovers find out about speeding laws, seat-belt laws and drunken-driving laws, which restrict their “right” to get wasted and careen down the highway at 95 mph without a seat belt.

I wasn't sure I believed all this, as it sounded so incredible. So I googled the Ohio legislator. Here's what I found:

Those are the same people that follow mandatory vaccinations, obey no smoking rules, obey no drunk driving rules, take their meds regularly, pay their taxes on time even though those are clearly Gestapo like violations of our civil rights. 🤪 Now some states are fining violators up to $300 for a single failure to wear a mask outdoors.

I'm biting my tongue... keep the pressure on.... well, I'll just say that I briefly lived in the area covered by this man's control and I'm not surprised - an area where the wrongest of the 'right' have power.
