Unusual talent..fun question

I started in grade school playing the recorder (we had to play them in class). Then in third grade, started playing
the viola and played in the school orchestra, then in college orchestras, then in community orchestras and chamber ensembles - been playing classical music just about all my life. Fifteen years ago, switched to violin after a fall affected my neck (it is lighter and shorter than the viola).

When I was sixteen, I started playing piano and taught myself all the notes on the piano. My father and two sisters also played musical instruments and we formed a music ensemble at home and played Greek music. It was fun! I minored in music in college and took a class on composition. I have been able to compose music and have it available on Youtube. I have tried playing several different instruments: accordion, guitar, bouzouki, clarinet, flute and more recently, harp. At one time I was a professional musician and taught violin and viola lessons, but that did not continue after we moved to another state.

I knew a lady that had a harp..a small one..don't know if they have a certain name
She learned at a Catholic school.

I, then thought, it would be interesting to try..but didn't/wouldn't know where to even find.to try
Just to 'strum'..

No Ohioboy, it's a full sized piano with all the bells and whistles (literally). It has about 500 instrument "voices" in several categories and 500 or more rhythms including variations. My songs are recorded on the floppy disks you see there when they are inserted into the instrument's disk drive.

A man in my church asked us to vote to buy an $8000 Yamaha Clavinova. None of us new anything about it but we voted yes because he clearly wanted it sooo bad. Now he plays it for us most Sundays. It's amazing. We're like "How did that orchestra get in here?!"

The nice thing about the harp is that its strings are colored, so even if you get lost, you can find your way easily by looking at the colored strings, if that makes sense.

It's not an unusual talent ... but I used to play Cello.. another lifetime ago.... :)
I love the sound of the Cello! When I started playing in a band we had no string section, so it was not an option. I just started playing music again when I retired. I really missed playing music and finally I had the time to take it up again. It has brought me hours of relaxation and joy. I hope you are able to go back to playing again, if not the Cello, then something else...just to be playing again!

Thanks Timewise.. over the years I've tried other instruments occasionally, and keep meaning to learn another.. . I always wanted to play the drums, but too late now to learn , my neighbours would hate me for one..lol... but anyway it's too intensive now for me.. I keep thinking I'll buy a keyboard..maybe I will one day.. :D

Holly, I thought I was always too busy to try learning a new instrument, but I missed playing music. I thought about renting a French Horn (they are expensive) as I can play that, but my neighbors and wife would not appreciate that, as the Horn is not much of a solo instrument.

Therefore, after I retired, I decided to get a Classical Guitar. It is not called a classical guitar because of the type of music it is used for, but because it is a little wider in the neck and has nylon strings, giving it a softer sound which is more of a classical sound. I think it is easier to play than an acoustic guitar or electric guitar that both have steel strings.

I am trying to learn how to play each note independently as I already know how to play most of the cords used on a guitar. But, if you can play single notes and blend in some cords, you can pretty much play the guitar for any type of music. Slowly I am getting to where I can pluck out a song as I read the music. It is relaxing when I practice, and I am glad I am doing it. It breaks up my day and gives me to time to focus completely on one thing...playing music.

The guitar neck and associated frets are laid out exactly like a piano keyboard. People who learn one, can then adapt fairly easily to the other...
If you have time, rent a keyboard for a while and see if it brings you relaxation and enjoyment...you might find it to be something you really enjoy! Good Luck...
