US Olympian Robbed Says Family & Friends. US Olympic Officials Deny It-Cover Up?

US Olympic Swimmer Ryan Lochte says he was robbed with some friends and fellow swimmers at a Rio night club including reports on line right before this posting. But US & International Olympic Committee officials seem to be denying it ever happened. There has been back and forth all morning about the incident.

Someone is lying and/or trying to cover something up.

lies, corruption and criminals

Now the Brazilians/ Rio police don't believe Lochte and want his passport for filing a false report or lying. Lochte already back in US.

Brazil and other countries have a reputation for corruption and corrupt police. It would not surprise me that police in uniform could very easily be robbing and/or extorting tourists & athletes for money. Brazil's AND Rio's police forces are known to be some of the most corrupt police in the region and have been to known to extort people and/or demand bribes. Along with shooting & killing the most people/suspects. In less than 10 years the Rio police have shot & killed 8,000 people. Many have reported being extorted or asked to bribe police.

Also with reports of robberies already the robbery of a celebrity or high profile athlete could damage their tourist industry further although the polluted water stories already took care of that.

It looks like corrupt police and government officials ie a judge are scrambling to cover up rampant crime and corruption. There is a possibility that Lochte's and other's stories might not be lining up but why has it taken Rio police 3 days just to determine if there was a crime. It's sloppy story telling by all parties.

How would you feel, living in one of these make shift shacks in shanty town, your children hungry, barefoot, in ragged clothing, and some westerner comes along, strut-
ting his stuff, treating your way of life and living conditions as a tourist attraction?
(Swedish tourists visit a slum--why?)

The sight of the Favelas is so incredibly disturbing. Never went there when I was in Rio. Couldn't. Wouldn't.

I get it. But it was their own country that invited those "westerners" in and spent a lot of money to to the Olympic thing. Not the westerners' fault Brazill spent so much money on the Olympics that should have been better spent on improving living conditions in Brazil, and it doesn't make it open season on said westerners.

The plot thickens-what plot I don't know.

Two US Swimmers with Lochte the night of the incident pulled off their plane by Brazilian authorities.

Brazilian authorities supposedly have footage of a fight with a security guard at a gas station.

Looks like they got extremely high and/.or drunk and have little accurate memory of events. Doesn't mean they weren't robbed but the story isn't looking too good now. But still it's taking Brazil 3-5 days to figure this out? Nobody is looking good here

Lochte issues an apology via twitter.

One swimmer still in Rio agrees to pay or donate $11,000 to charity to leave the country

Security guards did point a gun at Lochte when 'discussing' damages.

So what would've been a disorderly conduct ticket/fine and about a $300 check to the property owner in the US turned into an international incident in Brazil. Still working on the 'donation' to a non swimming charity instead of a repair/renovation project for the gas station owner. Although weapon wielding security guards or police would've caused a hurricane in the US.

I'm thoroughly disgusted about this whole thing. Despite the deplorable conditions at the Rio Olympics, there's no excuse for these so-called elite athletes to act so despicably -- vandalism, fabricating a story about being robbed, and whatever else. They've brought shame upon themselves, and their country. What are we coming to?

Sad to say, but the athletes lied about the incident in order to cover up bad behavior(their own); Brazilian authorities were understandably P.O.'d.

Considering 14 people were shot by police during the Olympics and a swimmer from Australia was actually robbed including cell phone and wallet they should be happy not to have experienced a ride on the Midnight Express.
