US Senate

Should every state no matter how few it represents have as many Senators (2) as a state representing many more constituents? Example: California has 39 Million and Wyoming has 583 Thousand yet they both have two Senators.

This is the fundamental principle of a federation of states.

Our system is the same but with less states, each state has 10 senators with five being up for election every three years. We also have proportional representation which means that all five do not come from the same party.

Perhaps two should be the minimum.. More populous states should perhaps be carved up into smaller States and also be given two senators. California could easily be two states. Northern and Southern

No, it gives a disproportionate amount of political power to smaller more rural states and since these states are predominantly Republican, the GOP likes things just the way they are. I'm afraid a constitutional amendment which is required to change the law is not going to happen.

You have too many states as it is. A better solution might be to amalgamate some of the smaller, less populous ones.

You are so right.... expecially since the more populous states tend to be Democratic.. That's due to the big cities. Illinois is blue because of Chicago. Otherwise we'd be blood red as central and Southern Illinois are Republican

It's a fair system. Each state gets two senators. The number of House members you can have is determined by population. Large states have more members in the House of Representitives, but in the senate, little states have as many as the big states, balancing out the power of the large states. But everybody knew all that.

But more would just cost a bundle more. Just think of all the perks that they get that we get to pay for...

They all know it and they liked it when the democrats had the majority.

It is a fact that democrats are the party of big cities while republicans are the party of rural America.
