These are very young women who were participating in the NCAA Tournament held in Idaho, which should have been a fun, exciting time. Instead they were met with this frightening incident as they walked to a restaurant. The harassment continued after they left the restaurant. While still in their original hotel, they were provided extra security, then ultimately moved to a hotel 30 miles away.
"According to a police report obtained by ABC News, on Thursday, March 21, team members were headed to dinner when "two pickup trucks were revving their engines and speeding by the team as they walked down the street. The trucks then turned around and came back towards the team and yelled the N-word at them as many of the Utah players are African American," the report stated."

The article includes the video featuring statements from their coach, the Idaho city mayor and the state's governor.

Sadly racism does still exist. According to this article there have been a few incidents in Northern Idaho and now people are questioning why the team was even placed in that area.

“It’s getting to the point where people of color can’t even travel anywhere,” Spokane NAACP President Lisa Gardner said. “This is starting to be reminiscent of the ’ 60s.”

The latest instance of public hate to stain North Idaho, the episode spurred some to question why the team was assigned to stay there in the first place.

“We should not have been there,” Utah Athletic Director Mark Harlan told KSL.com. “I do appreciate the NCAA and Gonzaga moving us from that situation, but we should never have been there in the first place. So a lot of folks need to get home and heal from the whole matter.”

The tx was actually played in Spokane, WA 40 miles or so from where the incident took place. The NCAA should have had them stay in Spokane, but it's the women's team so 'eff them. But there are numerous bigots, racists, white supremacists, militias, and anti-government groups,,,,whom I label all as white ISIS in North Idaho and elsewhere in the many backwaters of Idaho. They were drawn to ID decades ago by cheap land, wide open spaces, and limited law enforcement.

For decades they been drawing like minded folk, like flies to chit, from WA, OR and CA. ID has become their "safe space" where they can play w their guns and pretend they'll overthrow the government some day. They have reared their ugly heads in a most despicable manner again. The state has many great and kind people but there is a big share of backwardness and ignorance that is indeed horrifying.

There’s always going to be a few jerks that have to put on a show. It’s my understanding that there is video and it’s possible that some if the morons may be identified. Let’s hope so.
That's what I was hoping too Oldman. I figured that at least some of the businesses in that area must have footage of their vehicle. They put a stain on the city during such a high profile event. I hope that adds to whatever punishment they receive.

Thank you for that explanation of what that area is all about ATG. I don't know much about nor have any intention of ever going to Idaho. But for Blacks traveling to that and similar areas, perhaps The Green Book needs to be revised! I like your terminology "White ISIS" to describe those White Supremacists SOBs. @MarkinPhx

How is that possible in this day and age that people would use the word ******??? This must be white trash obviously that made those comments.
Unfortunately too many people still use that term, even Black people who use it jokingly, but don't seem to understand how derogatory the term is. When Pres. Obama was in office, there was a newspaper (forgot where) that actually published using that term to refer to him. I often see stories about the term being used, sometimes by officials, but I don't post about it here every time.

This is a sad situation, to verbally abuse young girls is the worst
crime in my book, you guide the young, because in the future
they will rule over you, the young don't really understand all the
bigotry that is in the World and hopefully they will never get to
experience any.

Where I live, is a community for over 55s, there are 25 addresses,
the residents have different skin colours, but we don't notice any
difference, at least I don't, we are all friends, the split which is mixed,
12 whites. 11 blacks, 1 Vietnamese and one Colombian, each are
polite to the others, I have only once heard an argument between
a white and a black, but that white man doesn't like anybody and
the black man lives above him, we also all mix for coffee weekly on
a Wednesday morning.

There are some bad areas in London, but normally we manage to
live together.

Mike.

Some of you may remember when radio/TV talk show host Don Imus, of "Imus in the Morning," got permanently canceled for making racist remarks about Rutgers women's basketball players in the NCAA tournament. That was in April 4, 2007,17 years ago. It was shocking at the time and even more so now. Will people ever learn?

I do remember that he made racist remarks and was canceled. Didn't remember that it was about women basketball players though.

You are correct. Perfect example is the Arayan Knights who apparently have quite a presence in Northern and Eastern Idaho. Same guys who shot the correctional officers that were transporting one to the hospital in Boise two weeks ago after a "suicide attempt." Faked,of course. I had to go to that hospital twice last week-once through the door just to the right of where the shooting occured and the net time a few feet to the left of it. I felt so badly for the workers who spent an hour and a half in hiding that night, not knowing if the shooter was still in the hospital. Turns out a cohort had picked him up and was the actual shooter.

On my visit on Monday, there was a police officer with his dog patrolling inside the hospital. I`m sure more than anything to make the workers and the public feel a bit safer. Thankfully, they caught the guys and their two female accomplices....

Thank you for the local view of it. It helps . We have similar crazy isolated groups camped out in Southern Arizona. Hopefully the NCAA has learned something from this. It may not change the situation much where you live but at least it will prevent something similar happening again.

This is an egregious outrage. I hurt for those woman.

What I'd like to see done, is these jerks caught. Have them stand in front of cameras and state why they did this. Let them explain it. WTF is wrong with their brains?

People who makes these awful comment are usually reflecting on their own faults.
This is true. But people suffer. I don't give this man a pass for harm he may have caused others. But I do remember an interview with a former white supremacist. He said he never belonged anywhere and they accepted him. I'm glad he at least noted what was going on, got out and changed.
