Vacation suggestions southwestern USA...

What is a 'typical Texas town' like?
Well, back at that time, I mostly frequented the local watering holes
The bar scenes in most the towns I visited in Texas were on the kicker slant
The pubs in Corpus were a bit more mellow
I considered Corpus a transplant from a tropical isle
Lotsa sailboats, yachts....stuff like that
Gorgeous weather too
Not so humid

Well there is a bunch of touristy stuff along Route 66 including Meteor Crater in AZ. If you go that far west (AZ-CA border) and can handle mildly dodgy roads (paved) don't miss Oatman, AZ. Tourist trap but some history as well. And the wild donkeys come right into town, you can buy carrots there to feed them.
Rte. 66 is a fun and informative ideal vacation. It can be very relaxing and if you enjoy seeing the Southwest from the roadways, this is it.

California’s Anza-Borrego State Park and the little town of Borrego
Springs would be my go to destination. Close enough to Palm Springs for a day visit, phenomenal bird watching at the Salton Sea. Beautiful badlands like desert to explore.
