Vegetarian, Vegan, Meat Eater, Or Other ?

Vegetarian since 1987. I need to try to get off sugar like someone else posted earlier. I’m seriously addicted.
I was addicted to sugar as well. Thought I was doing pretty doing my own baking with more natural ingredients, but sugar is sugar, and it has devastating effects on our health. I gave it up cold turkey and was literally in bed for 2 days sick. It took a long time to get over the cravings and mentally wanting desert and treats but after a few years my health changed completely. I also do intermittent fasting, I eat during a 4 hour window each day and nothing else outside of that. Have been doing that for about 8 years and that really has helped me health wise as well. When I go to the doctor, they ask me what I am doing :) Food really is medicine. I also lift a few times a week and walk each day. Watch this from Dr. Robert Lustig on the dangers of sugar. Sugar: The Bitter Truth - Bing video he has also written several books that are excellent.

Eight years is great! Good job 😸
Decades ago I read William Dufty’s Sugar Blues and that helped me for a while. I went 18 months without sugar and lost 60 pounds. Your story is inspiring me to try again.

Good luck, once you get through the initial withdrawal it gets easier. One of the hardest things I have ever done but worth it. The older I get the more I want to take care of my body and stay healthy. Sugar and processed foods are like poison. Just pick up a random box or bag of processed foods at the store and read the list of ingredients. There is not food, just boxes and bags full of chemicals. Sad really.

I love to cook and eat everything. I'm a carnivore and enjoy chicken, pork, fish, and occasionally beef and lamb. My meat products are grass-fed from local farms, I buy organic grass-fed dairy products, and fish are wild-caught. I love vegetables, buy organic whenever possible, and eat a seasonal variety. I also enjoy carbs in moderation and make my own ice cream and baked goods. I don't care what anyone else eats or why they eat it. That's their business. 🙃🙂

What Are Your Tastes ....
Im Not Strictly Any, But , I dont eat meat apart from some turkey, i like some Fish and Seafood......Im A pasta and Potato Person,
with Lots Of Veg And Salads And Fruit ....
It's easier to say what I tend to avoid, which is dairy, gluten, refined sugar, red meat (almost always) and pork (always).
I'm working on cutting out or at least down on nuts and nut butters but that's been a slow process. And processed foods, but I'm lazy and they're so easy. :/

I eat just about anything but stewed tomatoes and octopus.
My son can eat stewed tomatoes but they, literally, freak him out a bit in raw form.

I had octopus for the first time at my mother-in-law's house, the first time I met her and future husband's family.

I'm a big fan of Dr. Lustig, too, as well as Gary Taubes. About 4 years ago I did what you do and gave up all sugar and did intermittent fasting for 13 months and lost 60 pounds. Then the weight started creeping back even though I was eating ( and still not eating) the same things, so I got frustrated and I went back to sugar. Sticking to the plan for eight years really impresses me.

I've been vegetarian 32 years this summer and plant based since probably 2005.

For me it's easy. I'm not social and I don't eat out. Giving up palm oil was harder than giving up that little bit of dairy I was still eating. Not hard that it really bothers me, I just had to start reading labels again and again, those canned cinnamon rolls from Trader Joe's. 😭 😭 😭

I have been sugar free for 3-4 years, intermittent fasting for 8. It is hard but I am a pretty strong-willed person, once I make up my mind to do something I usually stick with it. If sugar was not so detrimental to your health, I would eat it with every meal. :)

Alternating days, a bag of Kale, spinach or broccoli. Bring to a boil, cool it off, then let the blender smoothie it. Oranges, apples, sunflower seeds. Skim milk and whole grain cereals. Yogurt and Halo Top ice cream.

My son came in with a huge bag of kale the other day, right before dinner. I got out my biggest skillet added a little olive oil, a dash of garlic saute, dumped in the whole bag and cooked it down for about 3 minutes. It was delicious!

I guess I'm the only super-sinner here, I'd rather lie about my eating habits. About 4 times a week, I have a dish of ice cream (1.5 cups) with so much dark chocolate syrup that my son (a big eater comments on it). To keep it nutritious, I put lots of either walnuts or pecans on top. If I have cookies, I'll add them in, too.

For "real food", this week I've eaten tacos, a couple of liverwurst sandwiches, a cheese burger, a turkey/cheese/dill pickle sandwich, and a can of spaghetti and meatballs, right of the can at room temperature. I've eaten 2 bananas and a serving of broccoli as well. I've also eaten several bowls of cereal with milk (Froot Loops and Apple Jacks), and 3 cookies. I have an unopened box of whole grain, high fiber cereal, but I've been in the mood for kid cereal.

I know this is a terrible diet. The problem is that I forget to eat. And then I'm starving. Or I forget and then my son makes me something (usually a cheese burger). When I'm starving I will eat whatever is quick.

I have begun (today) a plan to eat healthily today, one day at a time... no sugar. This is part of my take care of myself plan. Everyone else gets fed nutritious food by me.They have healthy diets, lots of fish and veg. I don't like fish, and after I cook meals, I'm not hungry. I don't taste test while cooking - I rely on my nose and eyes. I guess the smell fills me up (except for fish).

I eat meat and don’t eat super healthy. I eat a couple pieces of candy every night with decaf coffee. I lost 50lbs 3 years ago and eat in moderation. About once a week I have a small cup of light ice cream.

I'm pretty well 85% vegetarian. The only meat I eat is fish and chicken. Rarely do I have some hamburger. When it comes to steaks, I really hate them. They are full of muscles and you end up chewing like a cow because it just wouldn't go down.
