Very Disturbed By This Story

I'm wondering why he couldn't bring his son to live with him at his daughter's place. Is the son violent, or so anti-social that he can't live with anyone else?

Unfortunately China has always been and probably always will be a land of sharp contrasts.

He's probably lucky that his son in law accepted even himself. The SIL is probably also housing his own parents and the severely handicapped boy would have probably been a bridge too far. I doubt that suitable state based care would be available for him and the old man is looking after him to the best of his ability.

I think this is a situation where judgement should be suspended because we have not ever had to walk in this man's shoes.

Yeah but Warrigal no-one deserves to be chained up naked like a wild animal, surely there has to be somewhere that the poor boy could go, sure is an awful way for someone to die and he will from exposure to the elements.

The pictures wouldn't load for me, but the story was enough. :( I would think he could have found a place for him that's warmer and more comfortable than a cave, somewhere indoors? Obviously China has no place that would take in someone like that, and that's a shame too. At least the father is feeding and watering him, guess he could have just been left to die of starvation and dehydration. Since this story broke, has anyone stepped up, maybe someone with money and compassion, and done anything for this young man??

Don't forget about the one child policy.
I suspect that death by starvation and dehydration is the fate for many disabled children like this boy.
As a result they are probably few and far between with even fewer facilities to care for them.

He would also appear to be the second child, and as such would not be entitled to any social benefits, even where they exist.
I do think the father is doing his best and that everyone else in the village probably thinks he is crazy for keeping the boy alive.

Thanks for the photo Jill, that's so sad...what kind of a life is that. :( I count my blessings to be born and raised in the USA, and not a country like that, although I'm sure China is like a luxury vacation spot compared to some other countries.
