Violence threatened over masks

Did you know the only virus to have ever been completely eradicated was the Smallpox Virus?!

Well, not COMPLETELY eradicated...It seems two super-powers are saving some for the future?

https://www.niaid.nih.gov/diseases-conditions/smallpox

"Currently, there is no evidence of naturally occurring smallpox transmission anywhere in the world. Although a worldwide immunization program eradicated smallpox disease decades ago, small quantities of smallpox virus officially still exist in two research laboratories in Atlanta, Georgia, and in Russia."

The 6 ft rule is as stupid as the masks. Droplets from a cough or sneeze travel more than 27 feet. And the non-medical masks protect against particles during construction; not microscopic viruses. And the virus enters through the mouth, nose, or eyes. What mask protects the eyes?
The "experts" know this; they just throw out BS information to appear knowledgeable & helpful & have the "answers." It works with most people. What can we expect them to say? They can't cure this virus or any virus.
.
I honestly believe you're right @win231. It would require herd immunity to conquer this virus. When there's no one left to infect, this virus will die as previous viruses have always done.

The point is, there was a "successful"vaccine for it - the successful double needle live virus one. That was incredible at the time I'm sure. Talk about a nasty virus!

You are, unfortunately, completely unaware of any hard science concerning the masks you deride. Start here, before you post more comically inaccurate information, which you're doing more and more, these days.

You are, unfortunately, completely unaware that the source of your information is a large company that's in the business of air purifiers & masks & has operations in China, India, Mongolia & the Philippines. They are advertising their products under the guise of providing "useful information.
When I research something, I verify that profit is not involved. - like this research firm that says:
In some Asian countries, such as Japan and China, it's not uncommon to see people wearing surgical masks in public to protect against pathogens and pollution. But those masks don't help much in the context of a virus, Schaffner said. "They're not designed to keep out viral particles, and they're not nearly as tightly fitted around your nose and cheeks" as an N95 respirator.

Pharmaceutical companies use the same ploy. A couple of years ago, an article showed up in a medical journal that said "A common drug used to treat diabetes - Metformin has been shown to reduce the chances of breast cancer - in mice."
Several women in my diabetes support group were delighted to hear that a drug they were taking would prevent breast cancer - especially some who were already being treated for it.
I spend 2 hours researching the information & after reading several articles, I found ONE that included a sentence in VERY TINY, barely readable print at the bottom: "This study was funded by Merck - the manufacturer of Metformin."

Anything to sell a product....

All I know is, if the N95s were "required," I'd be one of those demonstrators. Those masks are torture devices and are very uncomfortable to wear. My deepest appreciation of medical personnel who are required to wear them for hours every day.

They can only be worn for 30 minutes before they have to be sterilized/replaced. They are effective for that long, then they become too saturated with virus.

Any sort of mask that slows the spread of droplets from an asymptomatic person is a benefit. I had trouble with getting a good seal, so I made my own face mask frame out of fat pipe cleaners. The filter material can be changed out after every use.

Why change the ruling?.. why not just ensure there's police or security at the doors to ensure everyone entering is wearing PPE...

I don't know about you or where you live but where I live they don't have enough police or security people for that and who is gonna stop acting out with one person on guard?

Cite your source, please. I'm waiting..... "saturated with virus." If that's true, then whomever is wearing the mask is definitely needing a face shield, too. I never heard of virally saturated masks. Must be one tight space with a ton of CV19 folks coughing and sneezing directly into the face of that unfortunate mask user.

Yeah, I guess those in hospital might just come up with that problem. Janet and I have, hopefully, never even had a single CV19 land on any of our masks, knock on wood, as we roam around town. Gotta err on the side of safety, though.

Man, did you not read the article? Tests by other groups were cited, as well as their own. Additionally, as I posted previously, there are other articles that speak to the useful characteristics of masks.

Of course you are free to believe whatever you want. There is frequently a profit-motivated reason for saying something is beneficial.
I don't robotically soak up such "information;" especially from a company that's selling a product.

This just came to mind....I remember last week I went to the drug store for our Med's....When I walked into the store, I had a mask on and
rubber gloves....The lady had a mask on and asked me, really snotty, where are you going!!! I told her I had to go to the pharmacy to get
our meds....Then I need a can of hair spray....She followed me....….I told the girl at the pharmacy, she said don't worry
she does that to all of the people....I told the girl, I wear the mask going to the supermarket and know one say's a word...Most have masks on.
I really felt weird...

OK, so I guess that "saturated with virus" mask, and its half-hour usability window were figments of your imagination, right? No biggie. Some folks do the necessary research, others simply make things up as they go along. Oh well........

My apologies, if I'm wrong. Simply provide the citation that I requested, previously. Thanks!

Tragically, a security guard at a Michigan dollar store was murdered after he told a customer she needed to wear a mask on the premises. It is required in that state to have a mask on when in enclosed public places. 😢

So very sad but not at all surprising. Human beings love to kill each other and are enchanted by murder. Just look at the many TV shows and movies. The more gruesome it is, the better we like it.

It could have been just a card game.

I'm sorry, but at times like this, I feel like giving up and becoming a serious misanthrope.

I see Oklahoma caved on the mask issue due to fear of the killers, now.

Situations like this always bring out the stupid in people.

It was only a matter of time. Before masks were required when shopping, I witnessed several related verbal disputes.
There are people who crave power & enjoy telling others what to do - without the authority, responsibility or qualifications that go with it.....like George Zimmerman & the "Handicapped Parking Self-Appointed Monitor Shooter." This situation allows them to have a good time.
