A royal expert has said the news Virginia Roberts is dropping her case against Alan Dershowitz comes 'too late' for Prince Andrew.
The Duke's accuser sensationally admitted that she 'may have made a mistake' by claiming that she was forced to have sex with a high profile lawyer.
Virginia Roberts said she was 'very young' and in a 'very stressful and traumatic environment' when she was around Jeffrey Epstein which led her to wrongly identify Alan Dershowitz.

Yesterday, she dropped a defamation case she brought against Mr Dershowitz in 2019 with no financial payment made to either side.

The extraordinary development comes months after Ms Roberts settled a civil claim with the Duke of York for a reported $12million.

Ms Roberts claimed she was forced to have sex with the Duke three times when she was 17 at Epstein's bidding — allegations which have been denied by the Duke.

Royal expert Angela Levin told MailOnline: 'Today's news is interesting and significant.

'But Andrew's reputation is down the tubes and has been for a very long time, plus the money has already been paid. So I think this comes too late for him.'

Meanwhile, royal author Richard Fitzwilliams said: 'It is too early to tell if Virginia Giuffre dropping of the case against Dershowitz might help Andrew if he attempts to rehabilitate his reputation in the future.

'He has no public support at all at the moment.'

He added: '[Prince Andrew's] friendship with the deceased paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and with the convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, his catastrophic interview on Newsnight and his failure to help the FBI in its investigations to track Epstein’s accomplices have led to his stepping down from all royal duties in disgrace.

'The photograph of him with Virginia Roberts and Ghislaine Maxwell has never been explained.

'Virginia Roberts did not sign a non-disclosure agreement and might write her story about the case.'

Mr Dershowitz was among the other high profile men that Ms Roberts claimed she was 'loaned out' to at Epstein's command.

She sued the 84-year-old Harvard law professor in a court in New York for defamation in 2019 and he strongly and vehemently denied the allegations.

Mr Dershowitz, who has represented OJ Simpson and was a lawyer for Epstein who negotiated his 2009 sweetheart plea deal, has become a strong critic of the MeToo movement and wrote a book called 'Guilt by Association' criticising it.

In a statement at the conclusion of the case, Ms Roberts, 38, who now lives in Australia and goes by her married name Giuffre, said: 'I have long believed that I was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein to Alan Dershowitz.

Wow!! Just Wow... ''she admitted she MAY have made a mistake by claiming she was forced to have sex with the lawyer''

Now I'm no fan of the pompous Prince, but this surely has to have the case against him re-opened..

So she says she made a mistake!!!! Wow! And she might write a book about this....Double Wow. As Judge Judy was fond of saying, Liar Liar, pants on fire.

And if she made one mistake then perhaps she made another regarding the Prince who is unlikely to reopen the whole mess but it will add a little more to Ms Roberts story. And it keeps her in the spotlight. Oh what a tangled web she has woven.

Precisely Lee... I am astounded... How could she have possibly made a mistake? ...probably because there wasn't going to be 12 million in it for her... her story seems to change all the time.. but this is just appalling, and experts are now saying it's too late for PA...well it shouldn't be...after all it never went to court.. and she should be made to go to court and take the stand..now..

Sure he is no wonderful human being.. he hung around with scum in the company of paedophiles.. but he's always denied having relations with her.. and now this has got to have people wondering whether her story was even true..

Ghislaine Maxwell must be eying this with some interest....could be a get out of jail free card for her. And she has said along with someone else that the photo of Roberts and the Prince was faked.

Well probably, but I wouldn't imagine she would gain anything from it because she was found guilty of procuring under age girls for prostitution, not just the situation with PA... but I do think despite ''royal experts' saying it's too late for PA, that this should really be investigated..

It does not surprise me in the least that a woman who was trafficked as a minor may have some confusion. Trauma and PTSD produce such side effects. However, I would be reluctant to presume that automatically casts serious doubt upon the veracity of her statements regarding Prince Andrew. Two very different men.

Wonder if Bill Clinton will be on her radar next. Clinton and Epstein were friendly. And the girls that Maxwell was accused of procuring begs the question of whether or not Roberts had a hand in that? Who knows what really went on. Maybe those girls are confused too.

Not trying to be flip but this whole sordid mess does need to be looked into. For accusations like this there needs to be accountability. Men's credibility and wife and family suffer along with the wrongly accused. I feel bad for Beatrice and Eugenie.

That of course is a possibility, but then her lawyer should have some hard legal evidence also, for if you sue under a mistake, you may cause the defendant stress, anxiety etc., also.

The Queen went to her grave knowing that Andrew was guilty as sin for bedding the then 17 year old (icky, icky with tweens at home). All the what if's won't change anything. I would bet Charles and William would like Andrew to disappear.

Andrew is a man so challenged in character that after Epstein was convicted, he still associated with him. Plus got felon Epstein to give his ex Fergie a substantial loan. With his exceptional schooling and status, one would think he would know better.
