Waiting to hear from my friends in Arkansas

I have been following the weather information channels on X this afternoon, and there were several devastating tornadoes. The storm has arrived here in Alabama, and we have had some heavy rain and thunder, and a possible tornado sighted south of us, but it fizzled out, so that is good.
The weather guy said all the heavy rain here kept it cool enough that it was hard for the storms to keep up their intensity as they moved into Alabama.
It looks like the worst has passed through Huntsville area now, and no more sirens are going off. The ones we heard were further east of us, and they have stopped.

No word yet. Looks like Cave city, (20 miles from my old house) got hit bad along with out lying areas. Haven't been able to contact any of the folks I know there yet. Fingers crossed.

When you try to contact people, the best thing is to send a text, and not try to call. Some of the cell towers might be down, and others are overloaded, a text message can send in seconds, where a phone call will not go through.
After the bad tornadoes here in Huntsville in 2011, we had no power for about 2 weeks, and no cell service for several days, and when we did we could only send texts and not make phone calls because of the cell towers being down and overloaded.

I also want to express my best wishes and hope for a happy outcome. It’s nerve racking and not easy but please try to be patient and remain optimistic.

I was seriously panicked for days last year when my friends were visiting relatives in Morocco and the earthquake hit, completely destroying the village. I could see the destruction on tv but there was no communication in or out. After a few days I got a text and breathed a big sigh of relief.

Here in Nashville we were under 6 different warnings/watches. Tornado, flash flooding, severe weather/lightning and hail etc. from 2 pm to 9 pm.

Several friends from around the nation called/texted to check on us but it wasn’t too bad. We had one actual tornado warning where the sirens went off, but the rest of the time it was super heavy rain, claps of thunder and lightning that were so close I thought for sure I’d see a tree or lines down, and one period of very heavy winds.

Neighboring states didn’t fare so well. 😔
