Walking the Curb without a Net

I just searched for the menu... looks delicious. I'd have the BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich... but I'd most likely skip the deep fried gizzards... might have an issue with that. :sneaky:
Oh, that's great! I'll have a look too. I thought it was just a burger joint

From post #113: "decrepitude"... wasn't that term coined in The Bucket List?
:) Don't know, I've forgotten most of that movie, Nathan, but we have to be careful to cross stuff off that list in the right order. I mean, first climb the mountain, and THEN read 'War and Peace'.

Decrepitude, from the Latin
Late Middle English: from Latin decrepitus, from de- ‘down’ + crepitus, past participle of crepare ‘rattle, creak. --Google

Katlupe inspired me to get a vibration plate. I have high hopes for improved circulation in the lower legs, but the literature cautions to seek professional advice for use with certain ailments, most every one of which I have.
So, in a seated position, resting my feet on the plate:
I did 1 min on 3/11 and next morning my knees were killing me ... well, they're often killing me, but now much worse.
On 3/12 and 3/13 I did 1.5 min. Knees remained the same.
On 3/14 and 3/15 I did 2 minutes. I noticed that, immediately after the 3/15 session, my knees felt good, but pain soon returned.
I really don't like to walk with this pain, but I think my knees are a little better this evening. 😂

Good morning! Wow, with all this talk about those vibration things I'd never heard of before, I need to check into it for my brother. His knees are seriously bad and he doesn't want to consider surgery at this point. I'll do some heavy research before bringing it up. I'm glad to hear the "I can't do this" ceremony has been cancelled. The little engine would be very proud of you. (y)

Oh, I hope the plate can help him, Kate. Don't let him overdo it.

I am not so sure about the vibration plate at the moment. I tried it again on #1 speed for only 2 minutes. My knees felt worse. I saw a video that said when you are sitting extend your legs out so your knees are straight. So I am trying to remember to do it that way. I am hoping to use this for my circulation/Lymphedema too.

Oh, Kat, the vibration plate really did a job on me, I've been in agony ever since I tried it. If I ever try it again, it will be standing only and for brief periods only. I'll pIace my two-wheel walker over it so that I have the handlebars for balance and support. I hope your knees are feeling better soon! Be careful

I'm glad to see you back - it's been a long time. Hope you are well.

A physical therapist told my husband to do a squat. Had he tried that, he would never have walked again! He said no and was called 'non-compliant'. I've seen so many excellent health-care people, but there are definitely the mean ones and incompetents, and you can't avoid them.

This reminds of my experience in Germany. Long story short, I had a terrible incident with my spine, the pain was like nothing I had, or have, ever felt. I could barely walk. When I went to the local doctor (I was living in Germany at the time, and I had to be shipped from Utah to Germany), he told me to stand still. Then he punched me in the back. And I mean punched. Fist and all. The pain was off the charts. He diagnosed a back problem.

Turned out to be a disc problem, but I was unable to walk after that for two weeks.

If I do any kind of exercise or walk a distance my knees are so painful for the days following. I was scared to stand on it because I would probably fall. So the vibration plate is retired for now.

I really think we should all be thinking of "transplantation" options to joints ; varied organs like ears and eyes and then introduce all the exercise machines later??

Kat, I think another thing that is harmful to our knees is shoes with thick soles.
My New Balance athletic shoes have soles well over an inch thick. I think that's not good. I think we need a definite connection to the ground.
My Nike Flex Experience 8 sneakers are much better for me.
You can practice grounding if you want by doing/being The Mountain, and meditating while acting out each phase:
I am grounded (stand while pushing your feet into the ground, and feeling that you are a part of the ground)
I am stable (find your stability by planting your feet apart in an easy but powerful position that can't be pushed or knocked out of place)
I am strong (breathe, straighten your spine and shoulders in a military stance and relax into it)
I am tall (bring your wrists up to your chest, assume them in a praying position, then, holding their position, reach for the sky --and maybe try for tiptoes)
From this point I try to transition into taichi practice, but no such luck for awhile now.

It is unthinkable that he should have done that to you! What asses some of them are!
