Warning issued as 5 million people told to stay inside for 34 hours

Warning issued as 5 million people told to stay inside for 34 hours"" Is this around the world or one particular spot or where - anyway inside for 34hrs coould kill a lot too??

To be clear, there are no wind advisories in California accompanying this heat advisory. Nor are there any large wildfires right now. California being 163,000 square miles, I can't say there are NO wildfires anywhere in the state, but there are none of great significance at the moment.

The current heat warning another example of what I call "warnings for morons" that have become ridiculously commonplace.

Example: My hand lotion label cautions me that it's for external use only. (Wow! Thanks for the head's up, I almost poured some on my cereal...)

It's gotten like the fable of the little boy who called "Wolf!" With warnings coming at least a few times a month for one thing or another, people get used to ignoring them.

Well said .... sadly, if there is really a reason to be warned - we might just blow it off as another wolf cry :(

Yes, I agree, there are heat waves that can cause a lot of deaths, and apparently we can expect more and more of those in the future, so it would be helpful if they don't exaggerate or generalize every warning and cause people to start ignoring them.

California heat waves are deadly, with the 2006 event being a historic peak and a 2022 event killing at least 395 people. Seven extreme heat events between 2013 and 2022 caused nearly 460 deaths and 5,000 hospitalizations. Vulnerable populations, including the elderly and outdoor workers in regions like Riverside County, suffer disproportionately.

That last paragraph is true for any area that can get hot. It's not specific to CA.

I nearly lost my fingers to frostbite while changing a head gasket on a cat dozer in Vermont when it was 20 below zero, and I suffered near heat stroke at the Salton Sea in Ca. while sitting on the roof of a JD 862 turn and pull to fix the a/c where it was around 120 and no shade. I'd say either extreme could be fatal.
