Warning Labels to Prevent Lawsuits - Did this need to be said?

Sad but true: "America's lawsuit-obsessed society has forced product manufacturers to cover their you-know-whats by writing warning labels to protect us from ourselves. Or, more relevantly, to protect them from us after we fail to protect ourselves." https://people.howstuffworks.com/11-stupid-legal-warnings.htm

* like allergy warnings on egg cartons: "May contain eggs."
* like heat warnings on paper coffee cups: "Contents may be hot."
* and the one that blew my mind: "Do not inject or ingest disinfectant products!" This was prompted by a remark made by a certain high-profile US person suggesting that injecting disinfectants might knock out the Corona virus, sending the makers of Lysol and Clorox into panic mode to prevent law suits and deaths!

So have you shaken your head over something, thinking "Did this really need to be said?"

I was watching TV and I laughed my you know what off hysterical.gif when I heard that high-profile person say that on national TV
 
We're literally killing ourselves with all this crap.

I can see the "may contain" on some food items. An item doesn't contain dairy but the manufacturer uses dairy and there could be a slight chance of cross contamination. Same with nuts. There are people with real life threatening food allergies. But yes, for the most part, the world has gone nuts.

I have a couple of folding clothes lines I use on my patio and I also ordered two over the door ones. I don't remember seeing those warnings. I do see them on the description page if I'm shopping on Walmart, Target or most online retailers.
 
when i worked in a store we sold a flat lazy susan type board for under your TV ( old style not the mounted ones of today) ......... picture on front showed how you could swivel set...

I kid you not a box that was only an inch high but in bold letters said ...
BOX does NOT contain a television .....

I would have to say the majority of people do not even read the warnings. Some of us do if we suffer from an allergy food product, those people are proactive regarding their condition.

I think the better question is why are products that can be dangerous to the mass population be even allowed to be on the market for purchase. In those cases, I don't think a tiny warning label justifies that if a party is hurt by said product, the consumer should not be allowed to sue. This is the price corporations should face if they are in the marketplace. They know that people could be hurt but are more focused on making money. They can only hope that the profits will cover the cost of lawsuits. Most of them are willing take the gamble and them call foul, it is not their fault. Bullcrap.
 
Frivolous lawsuits is one of the worst things we have an overabundance of.....

i wish those who file them ........ were charged all legal costs of defendants
when the injury or warnings are ignored item used in an unsafe manner it is not the products fault.
Most lawsuits are filed or threatened just HOPING for a quick settlement, because the details would show a moron using something incorrectly ................
how is that not extortion?

products will have a certain amount of Possible dangers............ but i think it is foolish to believe that a manufacturer should have to test for anything a moron might try.....
example : A drug that was pulled from market was sued by a person who NEVER had a prescription for it was illegally taking their wife's drugs.
More examples: cosmetic companies actually test in case a person decided to EAT the whole product .....

If a person has a known allergy....... it should be on them to be careful not everyone else ........ the warnings of even a chance of cross contamination should be sufficient.....
 
And it's not only on products. Whenever I call a medical office to make an appointment, I first have to listen to a recorded message telling me that if this is a medical emergency, I should hang up and call 911.

Lawyers who file defacto frivolous claims can be sanctioned. If a person files a frivolous complaint Pro Se they indeed are liable for the defendants costs. At a point they can also be deemed a Vexatious litigator, which blows their legal credibility to redress in the courts.
