1968 I turned 16. My brother had just finished his post-doctorate degree at Cal-Tech, so I flew from Texas to California to visit him and his wife. It was the first time I had been on a plane and the first time I had ever traveled alone. While in LA, my brother took me to see the NEW movie, "2001: A Space Odyssey", at a huge Hollywood theater. I loved the movie... but I confess, he had to explain the movie's Nietzschean man and superman theme. That same year [1968], my brother became a NASA scientist, moved back to Texas and helped create his lunar sample analysis lab in the Lunar Receiving Building at NASA's Houston Spacecraft Center for the upcoming [1969] first Apollo manned moon landing. After a 42 year career, my brother retired from NASA in 2010. He had been one of NASA's last remaining Apollo era scientists.
