Was World War II the last time this country was united?

The world wars were probably the only times that the country came together. So the divisiveness today could be a good thing seeing that no one wants the unity of another world war. Surely this way of thinking should comfort you as you look at the state of the country...
 

My answer is yes! All Americans were united in the war effort, even the kids. I have not seen that since then It is the worst it's been in my lifetime now!
 

I think the information flow wasn't as plentiful as it was back then so fewer sources, opinions and variety of stories makes a single mindset that much easier and more scary at the same time. This in regards to public unity only and not the war itself.
 
The country has always been divided. Everyone has their own special interest. When threatened with bodily harm we pull together to defeat the common enemy. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. I agree with you, Ralphy. Unity is not so great if it becomes a tool under the control of the wrong person. We have many large ethnic groups now, not to mention differing value systems. They all have their own problems. They all make their own contribution. Except for the ignorance perpetrated by some and the thievery of others, I like the direction the country is going in. Acceptance is the key. I wish we would bring back the original motto. "E Pluribus Unum". "Out of Many; One". How much more descriptive of who we are today, and setting a goal to be striven for.
 
Having a largely United Citizenry would be great. However, that Does Not fit the agenda of the Oligarchy that is increasingly running this nation. They gain their power by keeping the people divided. The Far Left and the Extreme Right get all the attention, and the majority in the Middle are left feeling neglected. I think Jimmy Carter even made some statements a few days ago about how the ultra wealthy are increasingly taking control of our nation, and how Democracy is becoming "In name only". We are just beginning to see the results of Citizens United...and things will only get worse, as a result of that stupid SCOTUS decision.
