Reading up on local news, I often come across the term, "we are pregnant". that goes for the woman as well as the man, what a stupid expression. It really grates. That's my gripe for the week. :playful:
 

OMG I thought for a minute you meant the entire NZ population! Bondi real estate rentals would go ballistic! :rofl:

It is a mindless PC term that ticks me off severely too. But then I'm still getting over 'Chairperson' and 'personnel access entry' for a manhole cover. When my employer changed the Head Cleaner's title to "Passenger Vehicle Presentation Superintendant' I just totally lost it!
 
I guess it's supposed to sound cutesy.....but I don't like it either. Baby bump is another I don't care for.
 

First time I heard it several years ago, it was a hubby who said...."we're pregnant!" I considered it a term of endearment and have heard it many times since. But it sounds silly to me, cuz "we" are never pregnant, unless it's one pregnant woman talking to another pregnant woman. Now, it's very common for couples to speak of "we're pregnant." It's such a different time than when we were raising our children. I can't even imagine my children's father saying that -- my husband at the time -- but perhaps if he had that level of emotional bonding we would still be together. The young men of today seem to be more involved with the process from start to finish, and that's probably a good and bonding thing. Don't you think?
 
And another thing on being preggers, what's with the blatant baring of the very large pregnant belly? It may be trendy, but looks ridiculous. For God's sake, wear something that covers it, as it's not an attractive feature as the due date gets closer. Maybe I'm off base, but these outfits that leave the baby distended & uncovered for all to see, while the mom's upper & lower body are covered in lovely duds just make me cringe. I'm as family oriented as it gets, but there's this thing called "well dressed." Does anyone find the almost ready to be born baby in the belly uncovered attractive? Maybe I need to get with the times and realize how much things have changed and that the maternity jumpers I wore with blouses & turtlenecks are outdated as can be. Too bad, cuz to me it sure looked more respectful than today's trends. It truly is a different world from our younger years.
 
Now there's a fashion trend we do 100% agree on Katy. I'm too devoid of the 'earth mother' complex to find everything about babies from conception to high school something to worship, coo, and aah over I'm afraid. If parading their condition is suppose to impress anyone it sure doesn't work on me.
 
Do you know what we have here, parking spots for yummy mummies with prams, i have a permit to park in a disabled spot but most times there are more of the pram spots than disabled. When i had my kids i didn't need a special parking spot, i was quite able to get the pram out in any parking spot, one thing that really has me angry is the spots for prams are right at the door to the shops and the disabled are a lot further away....

Same here, my dear. If you're expecting there are quite a few spaces blocked off for you at our most popular groc stores (Harris-Teeter -- must be 100 of them here.) The moms to be get about half of the handicapped pkg spaces at these stores. Demographics have shown them where the young moms live and they capitalize on it. LOL
 
Nude photos of pregnant women, or ones in bikinis...weird to me, I'll take the good old days when they just wore maternity blouses...guess not sexy or trampy enough for modern times. :rolleyes:
 
Hey girls, wanna be baaaad? Next time we see one lets whip up the shirt and show 'em our saggy bellies and scare the bejeezuz out of 'em with a glimpse of the future.
Ooooh, I am 'dark side' today.
 
When I was pregnant with our three kids back in the 60's, I never thought for a minute that "we" were pregnant. .. lol
Also wearing tight tops to emphasize the swollen belly I don't care for either. Just looks bad.
I had nice maternity dresses, and tops that were loose fitting with the skirts/pants with the expanding belly. They were very comfortable.

Walking used to be good for pregnancy. Whatever happened with that?

Totally stupid phrase.

Baby bump? Google Search returns 81 million results. As a comparison, "senior citizen" returns 97 million, just barely edging out the bump.

Disgusting.

I wish my husband would have tuned into the "we are prego" trend when I was pregnant. He didn't help with anything and wasn't involved (other than chipping in so to speak on the actual creation). I don't think he ever bathed or fed either child and god forbid if I asked him to get me a cracker or gingerale during the morning sickness phase.

I'm impressed with this current generation of soon to be Dads. The whole "we" is the way it should be in my mind.

As for the tight clothes, not my cup of tea but I don't see it any different than any fashion trend. It will pass eventually and then come back, just the same way as bell bottom pants and wedged heels.
