Why you Should add Cardamom to Coffee - Coffee Informer

I am so into this and have been, on and off, for many years.

Instructions on how to brew cardamom coffee

  • Remove the seeds from inside the cardamom pods (optional)
  • Grind the seeds or the whole pod with your coffee grounds in a grinder
  • Thoroughly mix your coffee grounds and cardamom
  • Brew coffee normally with pourover, aeropress, or french press for best results
One thing to keep in mind if you grind the cardamom in your coffee ground is the smell and flavor WILL linger in your coffee grinder for a few days. So if you don’t want that to happen grind it in a different grinder!

Before you grind it is up to you whether or not you want to remove the seeds from the pods, or you can grind the whole pod itself. The pods are edible and you can grind them with your coffee!

The ratio I use for my cardamom coffee is 4 pods per 20 grams of coffee. This is my optimal balance of flavor, but you can experiment from there, depending on how much cardamom flavor you want you can add more or less cardamom.

Once you have this mix of cardamom and coffee grounds all you have to do is brew your coffee normally! Just don’t try to make espresso with this. The cardamom will be ground inconsistently and will cause issues when you put it in your espresso machine.

I would recommend doing a pour-over, french press, or Aeropress.

At Qahwah house they actually served the cardamom coffee in a teapot and had a tea candle underneath to keep the coffee warm. It was very instagrammable!

Conclusion

If you haven’t tried it yet I would highly recommend you trying cardamom coffee. It is a healthy drink and a new way to spice up your coffee game.

PS. Sweden and Norway use delicious Cardamom in their baking;, cookies, breads and other sweets.

You can buy Cardamom in Indian groceries, of not in your Supermarket.
