Well Done Meats and Grilled Meats Cause High Blood Pressure?

Backyard barbecues come with a new caution: Grilled beef, chicken and fish may boost your risk for high blood pressure.


The same goes for roasting or broiling these foods, because high-temperature cooking is what’s key, according to a new study presented Wednesday at an American Heart Association meeting.


“Our findings suggest that it may help reduce the risk of high blood pressure if you don’t eat these foods cooked well done and avoid the use of open-flame and/or high-temperature cooking methods,” lead researcher Gang Liu of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, said in a release.


Her team’s conclusion is based on surveys of more than 100,000 U.S. adults in health fields revealed that the odds of hypertension are slightly higher for people who prefer meats cooked at high heat compared to ones partial to lower temperature cooking methods.


Now, I recall oh, maybe 30 some years ago it was said that flame-grilled (charred) meats were full of carcinogens. Now this.eHWGVvMsTRCQVdwwK7AK.gif
 

Don't even think of taking away our grilled burgers, hot dogs and steaks!! Heck, I've got somewhat high blood pressure anyway, so...........

Next week it will be the opposite or something else. I don't listen to any of it. Enjoy everything in moderation,even that nice rendered out pork fat from around the chop.

I agree Ruth, will still keep enjoying BBQ ribeyes char broiled, but no need to blacken them to excess, maybe that's not healthy, but it's not tasty either. Life is too short not to enjoy yourself, as you say, everything in moderation, and if you go crazy on something, make up for it the next week. :playful:

Solution!! Stop eating and eventually that will ensure no carcinogens.

Exactly...there is a place near here called the Cemetery , it is just chock full of folks with really low body fat, and really low BP.

I'd rather be a-tad chubby.....:)
 
First it was cancer, now high blood pressure, if they do another study it will be low blood pressure :rolleyes:

I use Slide quite a bit on the barbq, they will come out with a study warning on that next.

Slide ? Is that some sort of non-stick spray ?

I have already read something about that. If I can find it?...I'll post it.

RGP....Slide is a non stick foil and it is great for stuff that might stick on the grill such as barbq sauce. I will barbq chicken direct on the grill but put it on Slide to add the sticky sauce. There are generic versions of it also.
