Well Done the USA Ladies Soccer Team

I see no sports section, so here I am to congratulate
the American Ladies Soccer Team, they have reached
the final of the World Cup.

The game was played in the middle of the night here,
so I watched it on "catch-up" TV, I think that they were
playing 12 players in the German team as the referee was
very biased and let the Germans off with some really bad
moves, she, (the referee), was Rumanian.

England play Japan tonight, at midnight, the winners will
them play America in the final on Sunday in Vancouver.

This tournament has been very good and mainly clean,
with not too much bad play.

I hope that the best team wins fairly, whoever it may be.

Mike.

Considering we are at the infant stage of our soccer development, these gals are really kicking ass. Good for them.

Yes, yes Hooray for the American woman.

Question: Is it the case that team England is just England and not Scotland as well?

Yes Josiah, it is only England.

When it comes to football these "United Kingdoms", are not
as united as the name suggests.

Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England are all in the
UK, but not their National Football Teams.

There is also the Republic of Ireland which is not in the U.K.
but they also have their own team.

The Olympics won't allow each nation to enter sportsmen/women,
they have to be in the Great British" team, so at the next games
in Brazil, there will be no GB soccer team as the other three nations
don't want to play with England

Sad really, a lot of youngsters denied the chance to excel.

Mike.

Well done USA but the team is not inexperienced.
Last world cup they were runners up to current champions, Japan.

I believe you misunderstand my comment. In the USA soccer is a relatively new sport whereas in most of the world it has been around much longer. Twenty years ago I never heard it mentioned here at all.

It's new over here too. Our Women's team has made it to the quarter finals three times and that is better than the men's team ever has. The difference between your team and ours is that yours are fully professional and well supported. The Matildas are poorly supported and all of them have to have day jobs to make ends meet. Still, we are very proud of the, as you should be of your team. They were runners up at the last World Cup.

I hope the USA manages to topple the Japanese this year but the Japanese team is very skilled.

Well... The USA team caught a break... Englands team lost to Japan last night... get this... they actually scored the winning goal... ON THEMSELVES!!! lol!! So now the US will face Japan.. who knows the only reason they are playing the US is because the someone didn't know what goal they were aiming for.. It's a shame though.. that player has to feel horrible.. I really do feel sorry for her

Sad about the English team, I haven't watched
the second half yet, but I heard on the news
this morning about the "Own Goal", this is a shame
as they were playing really well and they too got a
lot further than the men have done for many years.

Good luck America, I will now support your team.

Thanks, Mike. I feel so terribly sorry for the gal who scored a goal against her own team. I will be watching the match between England and Germany and hoping she scores ... not that that would ever wipe out her feelings, or those of the people, press mostly, who will undoubtedly not let this drop any time soon.

The U.S. hasn't had a winning team since the days of Mia Hamm ... still, in my mind at least, the best female soccer star worldwide at the time she was playing...and maybe even now.

Never was interested in soccer but somehow I stayed glued to the TV for this one and will for the finals.

Those 2 gals that banged their heads HARD and drawing blood needs to be looked at,me think its time for helmets.

I'd agree with you re the helmets. But it will never happen. Football/futbol/soccer is too revered [ particularly Western Europe and South America, it looks like ] and too machismo in the men's game to allow that sort of protective gear. Collisions and headers can and do cause terrible concussion problems.

Glad to see that you're watching, DJ. Our American [ U.S. and Canada ] football is a matter of lining up big hulks, calling a play, someone goes splat, then everyone mills around for awhile until it's time to line up and repeat the process. Unless my memory has gone completely to h*ll, football used to move faster.

Soccer/football/futbol is one seriously fast-moving sport and a pleasure to watch and marvel how anyone can run at breakneck speed for 90 solid minutes. I'm a convert. Have made my family converts, as well as a few friends.

Haven't gotten into rugby yet, but there's a NewZealander who is seriously gung-ho about it. May have to give it a try [ watching, that is! :D ].

Not being an expert on soccer but I would like to see the field of play a bit smaller. I sometimes get exhausted watching those players.
Also would like to see that goal net made smaller, that net need seem to be large enough to drive an 18 wheeler thru(g)
