Were there any tv shows you were not allowed to see.

I grew up in the days before movie ratings and cable so things were pretty tame compared to today.

Also, I was the youngest of four kids so my parents were pretty relaxed/worn out by the time I came along.

As far as today goes I figure that a kid either understands what they are watching on television or they don't so restrictions don't really amount to much.

I'm with Aunt Bea. Growing up, most of the TV stuff was quite tame, and TV was only on in the evening.

When I was very small, though, I wasn't allowed to listen to Inner Sanctum on the radio.

When I was really young my mother used to like to watch Alfred Hitchcock, she would never let me watch that show.

Television was so mild in the days that I grew up. The only thing I remember upsetting my Dad was ad's about Bra's. He would get up and leave the room.Married couples were not allowed to sleep in the same bed together on shows. It sure has changed now.

We grew up well before there was Cable TV, so everything had to over the airways. Congress supposedly made sure the FCC would allow only wholesome programs on TV. The 10-11 PM time slot was for "adult programing". That was the "Cop" show hour. It was only after 11:30 PM would there be programing aimed exclusively for adults. And that was mostly by sexual innuendos- Jack Paar, etc. I really don't think it was truly harmful if kids viewed it.

We were not allowed to watch ‘The Quatermass Experiment’ a BBC science fiction series from the fifties

Nothing after 6 pm.... , and given the Tv wasn't allowed to be turned on until 5pm, it didn't leave a lot of time. We were allowed to have the TV on during the day on Saturdays.. but mostly we were out of the house, but if we were in we had to stay quiet while father watched the Wrestling ... and checked his football results!!

Also regardless of what we were watching on Tv when he walked in the room, he would just turn the channel over. ''When you pay for it you get to watch what you want'' was his mantra!!

I remember not being allowed to watch the Eurovision Song Contest-still an annual event-when Sandie Shaw sang Puppet on a String for the UK.I guess it was because it finished late. Now i don't want to watch the Eurovision Song Contest.
