Were you in a school play?

yes I was in the school play can't even remember what it's title was, but I was the director, and played the minor part of the next door neighbour....

In senior school when we put on huge extravaganza shows and the public packed our Assembly halls out for every show, ..and we put on.. Oliver, West side story, My fair lady.. Singing in the rain, South pacific and more..I was in the school choir and orchestra playing Cello...

My elementary school had a tradition that every Friday morning there was a school assembly with some kind of presentation. At times it was a slideshow or a short movie, and each class presented a play once in the year. I played a rooster in my 2nd grade class play, which required wearing a nylon over my head with a beak, comb, and eyes attached. In 4th grade I played a kid who caught a leprechaun. In 5th grade the teacher had the idea of doing a play about Robert Burns, which bored most of the kids. In sixth grade I got to play a ghost, which I loved doing! You could tell I was a ghost because I wore chains. I doubt that this would pass muster today… 👻

In elementary school, all classes would put on class plays and every member of the class participated. Teacher's pets were always given the best roles. In high school (even though I was a truant!) I really enjoyed our yearly 'Sing.'

I was in the drama club in high school and remember performing in one play...something about Mephisto's Hideaway. I didn't have a lead part which was fine with me. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the experience so much. I did perform in our senior talent events that weren't plays. I sang with two different girl groups (three of us each time). I was a lot more nervous during those performances. Brings back good memories.

In third grade, we played William Tell, and I directed. We had to figure out how to keep the apple on top of his head while shooting an arrow! With a trick of the eye, as the arrow was pretended to be shot, we had someone behind the curtain replace the apple with an arrow already implanted in an apple. But the apple and arrow fell off his head. Lots of laughter ensued. :D

Also, I directed a Cinderella play when I was in college to a group of grade-school kids at a recreation center during the summer. The day we performed the play in front of the parents, and the children were dancing at the ball, the "king" accidentally kicked the "queen" and she kicked back, and he kicked her back, and it became a fight. Right there on stage. I broke it up. We did that part again, worked good second time around. Whew!

Later, like others here, I played in orchestras while others performed on stage.

grade school: I played Cinderella
6th grade: I played Snow white.
Junior High: Liberace came to our school and I sang solo on stage while he accompanied me.
High school: Couldn't join Thespians because I had to work after school.

I remember when I was in grade school we had plays every year. One year a boy named Jimmy picked me to sing and dance to "Casey would waltz with the strawberry blonde and the band played on. I had a wonderful time. Sadly Jimmy passed away in the Viet Nam war.
