What age did you have your first child ?

Interesting to see Lady Emeraudes thread on the age of our mothers, it made me wonder what age were the next generation when we started our families

I had my only daughter at age 17, so young and stupid, God knows, not only how she survived, but turned out to be so calm and level headed, (coupled with the sharpest wit and sense of humour)

We have the most fabulous relationship, and I know how lucky I am to have her 🤗

I did not have children, intended to twice but did not follow through, long stories, aren't they all at times :)

Got to ask: how do you feel about that now?

The reason I ask is that when my wife and decided to go for it when she was 39 and I was 29 we discovered a ruptured appendix had taken out some of the needed apparatus. Subsequently, every time we looked back at our missed chance and did the math on how old the child would be now we would high five each other and let out a whew!

Hi Mark :)

These years later, I am content with not having had children, BUT there are thoughts of what my little one/ones
would have been like and things like that. Over the years being able to enjoy the little ones on up to teenagers,
via close friends etc, has been so nice, and in it's own way fills that little gap that might be present over the years.

As you shared too Mark, the ruptured appendix and having then taken out some needed apparatus, yes, I sure
can understand that, so many similar things can unfold and one does not go on to have children, high fives at
times for sure ;)

I had my kids at 19, 23 and 25. When the youngest started school I started college. I am so happy that I had my 3 boys. I am extremely close to 2. One has had a drug problem for years and we talk on the phone occasionally. I haven’t seen him in 7 years.

My oldest son is married and they decided not to have kids. I asked them if they regretted it as they are turning 50 and they both said no. Most people that decided against it are happy with their decision.

I was 30 when my daughter was born, 33 when my son was born.

My mom was 35 when she had me, my dad turned 59 a week after I was born.

My kids are now 29 and 32 and have no immediate plans on having kids.

Like you she tells me she tried many times only to lose them before they were deliverable. Finally when she was 34 she was able to carry my stepson to term.

I can understand the wonderlust regarding what might have been though I have none myself. In addition to living with my stepson since he was 6 and growing up as the second oldest in a brood of 7, I also taught more than 3000 middle schoolers over 25 years of teaching. So frankly I much prefer the company of adults now.
