What age is considered elderly? Do You Agree

If one is considered elderly between 69 and 71, what does one become after 79?
Ancient??? I hope not - at 87 I am old, yes. I have to admit to being fragile but
never senile!

It simply means "Approaching old age.".

You just can't assign a certain age to it.

If I HAD to, I'd probably say 65 years old, or OLDER than that.

People look and act older or younger than their actual chronological age.

I happen to be 93 but don't look or act like many people that age that I see around town.

I even drive my own vehicle to the stores and gas stations and nobody flips me off.

(BTW, My avatar picture was taken about 5 years ago @ my Elks lodge.)

I don't like the word. It is an undefined euphemism.
I'm almost 75 and I am an old woman.

When people argue and say, "But you're not old", I point to my hair and face and tell them that this is not what youth looks like.
Nor am I middle aged since I have no expectation of living another 35 years or so which I would have to do if I still in the middle third of my life.

Every age has its pluses and minuses. I enjoy my life as a grandmother and elder. I have acquired a good deal of knowledge of life and I have wisdom that I can share. I am still a contributing member of society so that while I am old, I am not yet in my dotage.

To me, the word "elderly" carries a negative connotation for some reason and I do not like it. I'm almost 72 and I am not elderly. I still zip around and do pretty much whatever I want (with certain exceptions -- no more running, for example) and I still have all my marbles.

I resent the way the world, and the media, as some pointed out above, want to sort out older people as "elderly" and treat them as if they are a different species. I'm just a person who has been around longer than some have.
