What are you doing today 2023

Going to hopefully sit in the sun for an hour this morning, after our daily walk about, with my great hub.
Making a favorite, incredibly different and delightful chicken and rice soup from a recipe I've kept for
years - has tarragon in it.

Then have a spiritual zoom study group for a couple hours this early evening.
Have a good one, folks!

I was planning on arriving at Costco when it opens this morning, then considered we'll have 2 year old grandson Thurs and Fri. He's quite good in the store as long as we keep a stream of Cheerios or oyster crackers coming his way, so why not delay that trip a day or two?

I certainly can't bake, clean or cook anything involved while he's here, so shopping for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinners it will be! When I ask if he wants to go bye-bye in the car he does a little dance and mimes having a steering wheel in his hands.

That means, you guessed it, more cookies today. However, with the exception of sugar cookies for a final party on the 28th (I'll bake those on the 26th or 27th), today should end this year's Christmas cookie marathon.

Daughter and I had a great night's sleep. We left at noon and headed to Morrisons. We knew by now, this close to Christmas, that all the small turkeys would be gone.

However, it meant that by going to Morrisons, we'd get the choice of frozen or fresh. Indeed we did! Medium frozen ones were nearly £20. We picked one and headed for the chill aisle.

Passing the meat counter, I asked if they could cut the turkey into two halves. The lady took us to the fresh counter, apologising as we went.

I picked up the one she offered amongst the fresh mediums. Better price, if course. Once home, I took out my two kantana-style knives and my one magical one which cuts through anything.

Half an hour later, and we now have a full half for Christmas with the giblets. The other half wrapped in stretchy film and then into foil. That one for New Year's Day. Job done!

Split the bag of frozen roasted potatoes in two, in the freezer. Two wee broccolis and frozen bag of sweet potatoes and carrots. Got the turkey gravy two months ago on special.

I've done the dough with daughter's help so the buns are ready to be raised and cooked when needed.

The tree and village are done. Chilling, watching The Crown, with a freshly brewed cup of espresso Caramel. Today marks the countdown...

You probably know this snack food by another name. Any combination of Wheat, Corn, Rice Chex, Shreddies, pretzels, nuts, etc and then baked with a nippy butter poured over top. It was a Christmas staple when the kids were at home.
Hickory Baked Snack in our home...that's what we called it.

Nuts and bolts baked snack in my aunt's, uncles and cousins houses...😂😂😂

Regardless, it's lovely knick knack munchies!

There's a woman who's worked steadfastly in our local river conservation/restoration group, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Someone she knows set up a GoFundMe for financial support while she goes through treatment & recovery. I encountered some kinks at first in trying to make my contribution on GFM, but was able to succeed with it this morning.:)

This morning I'll change our household water system's filter cartridge. I expect today to devote more time to organizing my office, and catch up on email correspondence from friends. Also, a little more wrapping of Christmas presents. And the daily firewood splitting. Since I made supper last night, I can rely on DW to handle that for this evening.

Chex mix! As it happens, I've also got all the fixings to make a (healthier, butter-free, plant based version) and need to get to it before Christmas.
Homemade Chex Mix Recipe
I'll use regular worcestershire sauce, add pretzel sticks and skip the seasoning salt.
Will probably include a small amount of margarine or oil to crunch things up.

My sister-in-law used to make this every Christmas and give every family member some. She died about ten years ago and this year I'm picking up her beloved tradition.

Finally I am getting some gifts mailed and some last minute Christmas cards, too.

There is still about 2 inches of snow on my car but the Sun just started to warm everything up.

If I give it one more hour, before I go to the PO, most of the snow will melt off. I dont plan to drive far today, and have plenty to do here. (Much, of which, I really do not want to do.) :cautious:
