I got a telephone call this morning from a couple with an invite to a belated birthday lunch.
I met the husband as a volunteer at our local museum some 20 years ago and he and his wife became my good friends and have kept in touch.
They picked me up, we had a delicious lunch and glass of wine, a birthday cake and great conversation. They are French Canadian so always have some wild story to tell of their days in Montreal.
The little tag did say Happy Birthday on the other side.
Some days are good eh!!

This is a better pic of my 'cake'

yes and there was more...she gave me 3 portions of homemade soup frozen already in bags, two large portion of homemade apple banana cake and 4 sandwiches already made up, two with egg salad, two with salmon made with sourdough bread which I happen to love...
soooo nice to be spoiled....

well yes it would be possible, but then it wouldn't be insulated like this one is... . The fact is, it's far too dangerous now unfortunately for me to go up there..now my knees are so painful, and I have to physically climb in there like a monkey.. at 68 tomorrow.. I should know when to call it a day before I get seriously injured.

Add that to the fact that even when I get up there, one missed step and I could fall staright out of that hatch. With everything that's up there there's only about 3 feet of standing space around the hatch..
For God's sake holly, stay off that ladder and if you insist, make sure that someone else is there to help or call in case of a slip.

A very pleasant day. 68 and sunny with no wind. Yay.

Sir was off today so it was left to me to "train" Newest Hire. Thank heaven she doesn't need much training. It was nice to leave at 11. That last hour between 11 and 12 was about to do me in!

I didn't hear any distress calls while I worked in the garden but assumed that y'all knew that you could find me there if you needed me. Got lots more weeding done...maybe a third? That leaves 2/3. Daunting to say the least.

And DD told me about somebody on the gardening thread she visits on FB. Instead of laying old newspapers down and covering them with mulch to prevent weeds, they use cardboard. Brilliant. Since we recycle at the store, I asked if anybody cared if I took the broken down boxes. Nope. So I took all that we had from the bakery when I left this morning. Gonna foil those darned weeds because I'm just too old and tired to do this every spring (and all summer long as well!). I'd rather plant and admire flowers.

Tomorrow's a day off. More weeding. More pleasant weather. Yay.
I have used strips of old carpet as well as the cardboard....

Yesterday my son had planned to come over and help me food shop but my dil had the rare opportunity of getting together with some high school friends for lunch. She & her friends were waiting outside to be seated inside but had to leave & go somewhere else because she saw a herd of mice! Or is that a gaggle of mice? Oh, it is a Horde! of mice. MICE ON LOOSE IN MIDTOWN! ugh ugh ugh. My dil true NYer! True Blue.

Anyway, this afternoon after Young & Restless I must go grocery shopping since I was stood up for mice!

Up fairly early, as the sun is rising earlier these days.

I'm thinking about what "the basics" are at this point in my life, and how to focus on them. Health and housework, I guess. Sure it would be nice to be lazy, or to have a time-consuming hobby, but how long will I enjoy it if can't even get up out of a chair? Meanwhile, I know that my best laid plans will fall apart if I don't have any fun at all.

Anyway, today ... Exercise is a priority. While I exercise, I'll listen to an audio book of the book club selection (chapter 4 of Darwin's Origin of Species). Did you know that Spotify has lots of audio books of many classic works? Search under Podcasts.

Time to clean the living room. Do laundry? Maybe.

Spend as much time as possible on the balcony.

Whew! That's enough. I see seniors like @Georgiagranny who work AND have a garden, and I can hardly imagine. That's okay though. We're all different. Most of my "activity" is brain activity.

Back from Dr.'s office don't have go back till August!

Wanted to do outside work.Just had a 20 minute, snow /rain shower.
Ground too warm for snow to stick.

Had walked Mac before the shower,,,looking at all the flowers in bud or blooming.
Seems too early for some of them.
Yay on no Dr. visit for a few months! :) Don'tcha love that?
What breed is Mac?
