What are you doing today 2023

I rarely give up cookbooks! That's what I have for if TSHTF!
I have Betty Crocker, Good Housekeeping, NY Times. Many old ones.
I only get rid of fad diet ones or the like.
I've a bunch of cookbooks. However, hubby was the one who used them. Once I know the recipe, I just make it.

Example, yellow split-pea soup today. Poured 1 1/2 cup of peas, added on carrot sliced up and one pack of smoked lardons. Herbes de Provence, onion powder, 3 ham cubes and a dash of sunflower oil.

Boiled all for 10 minutes, simmering for 20 minutes. Once completed, I'll use my trusty wand and blend everything to mush lol perfection lol!!!

Accompanied by slices of buttered bread for dunking, ahah!

Poor hubby, he couldn't get my spices and herbs mix. I never measured, just pinch of this and pinch of that... sorry!

Experts always make everything sound so easy, but it's like me telling you it's not that difficult to replace a ceiling fan. It isn't if you know what you're doing. But I appreciate the confidence you have with this amateur.
I know I'm not that good, blush😚 but my parents always had meetings at home for their various charities, so it was weekly.

Anyway, to help you out dear @bobcat , I've found this one on YouTube with 6 ingredients all available in USA. I don't like pie crust as I prefer Graham Crackers crust lol! First one filling, second one crackers crust 😁

Good luck!

Hope you don't mind Super... but just so everyone in the USA knows... there isno such thing as Graham Crackers here... I understand the equivalent is Digestive biscuits.. which is what most of us use when making Cheesecake...

LOL yes, most use digestive but I don't have as sweet a tooth as husband did. He was a sugar monster. I prefer Tea Biscuits, great consistency and not as sugary.

My infamous nobake triple chocolate cheesecake, is way too much to make these days. The ingredients nearly a baker's dozen. I've given up. Same with my dried fruits and nuts Christmas loaf.

On top of that my two biggest dessert eaters have gone. Daughter and me are bird eaters lol!

PS secretly missed them Graham Crackers, gosh they were so yummy! Always had 3 boxes in cupboard. These days, I make just Strawberry cream cheese pudding pie.

Dreams Whip Topping replaces (dreamwhip or coolwhip)
Angel Delight's replaces (Jello pudding)
Homemade lemon custard replaces (Sheriff's Lemon meringue pie filling)

For a while made mint jelly from scratch. Eggrolls, now that's an enterprising weekend with two people. Too much. Nowadays just make eggrolls bowl. Served in bowls without dough but still make apricot sauce from scratch. Sorry but I love cooking. Thanks all to a wonderful tower strength woman, my great-grand-mother Maggy!

I trim my hair too. Haven't gotten a haircut since the Pandemic started,.I mean before that. Thinking of going to a salon though.

What are you binge watching now?
I haven't been to the beauty parlor (as we call it around here) in a couple of decades. Back then, they used to cut my hair way shorter than I was comfortable with. Now it wouldn't be a problem, but it's so short and I'm wearing a natural, so it's very easy to manage. I had starting cutting my own hair ever since I was in high school. I can count the times on one hand that I had beauticians cut my hair.

My binge watching is a little different that some people. I don't watch several episodes of a series in one sitting. I'll maybe watch one or two tops in a day and watch other things in between. So as of today, I'll be returning to the last season of Blue Bloods (Paramount+) and continue with the final season of Manifest (Netflix).

I'm trying hard to believe. Sigh.

@hollydolly I was only using a baked potato for comparison. It would only take up a little bit of the plate but all of my belly!

BTW, did I mention that Sir is now among the bakery folks with covid? There are only three of us. Hope our cake decorator doesn't get it because she has 8-year-old twins. If this is the newest iteration, there are gonna be a lotta sick people at work because Sir is always out and about all over the store, often in the deli, spends a good bit of time in the offices upstairs. Oy.
A lot of people here are reporting being sick with Covid. We went months with almost nothing but now cases are climbing again. This variant seems to cause great exhaustion for a week or longer. :(

I've often wondered what digestive biscuits were. So they're similar to graham crackers... that explains why they're used in baking. Thanks for clearing that up, HD!

I always have plain (not sugar-cinnamon topped) graham crackers in the pantry. Not too sweet. When DGS is here we have a mid afternoon graham cracker break. He loves them, as does Ozzy dog (we share small bits with him).

Just reading back over what people have been up to. I had a great weekend. Toddler grandson (TGS) on Friday, lunch and fascinating factory tour at DS's company on Saturday, then two older grands overnight on Saturday to Sunday. Sat evening we watched, "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" with them. They'd never seen it and we were happy to watch it again a nearly 30 year interlude. It aged surprisingly well.

Not to make anyone feel old, but the kids in that movie are now in their 50s! (I looked them up on IMDB. Turns out this movie was pretty much the highlight of their acting careers.)

Today, TGS is coming for the day. Pool has warmed back up to swimming temps after losing 10+ degrees from last week's massive rainstorm. We'll take him in this morning before breakfast, then see where the day leads.

Expecting the hottest day of the year today. Not a heat dome, thank goodness, just a few days of hot weather before temps drop to more comfortable levels.

Hope all have a lovely day!

@StarSong Cases on the rise here, too, by a lot. But please take back that part about great exhaustion for a week or more. I don't wanna use up my vacay on being outta work. I've already used up my PTO. Can't work when I'm too tired, and I'm already too tired.

@hollydolly elevenses? Is that like a coffee break? Is afternoon tea also like a coffee break as opposed to "tea" which really amounts to supper here?

I've just spent the best part of 2 hours cutting back the Big laurel Hedge. It's just such a fast grower, and it's close to 30 feet high... but what I needed to do was cut back where it's spreading forward into the garden and over the roof of the Barn.. that's as much as I could do on my own.

The laurel has some beautiful big black berries on it at this time of year. They're the size of Grapes, and very high up. so I had to stand on the 6 foot ladder, to even stretch up with my phone to get pics... very wobbly *yikes*...

I managed to cut back a whole loads of branches , using the high reach trimmer... but it's heavy and it doesn't take long for my hands and my back to hurt,...then there's all the sweeping up to do.
Anyway it's done, hopefully until Spring.. we'll see...

Here's some pics of the berries.. they're poisonous to humans but the birds and hedgehogs love them

Incidentally if anyone has a problem with Deer, you should plant a laurel hedge.. the Deer won't go near them...

Elevenses is mid morning tea.. ( tea break when at work ).... afternoon tea is a light snack around 4 or 5pm.. maybe sandwich , biscuit or cake... ...this is the Tea that Hotels charge people fortunes to enjoy in the afternoon. They make trays full of sandwiches, and cakes and endless pots of tea.. for extortionate prices..

The sad thing is, that people do think they're getting their moneys worth when tea is served in a hotel... Ooooh £60 for this lovely spread... forgetting that once they've eaten a couple of sandwiches and a cake.. they can eat no more...:coffee:

I just joined up at SF yesterday and you are one of the first few members I've seen from around L.A. I wanted to message you directly, but can't figure out how to do that yet. I am just learning to navigate the site.

I am on the westside. Yes it should be warm for a few days. So glad summer has arrived, finally. It has been down right cold here near the beach most summer long. Looking forward to some warm days.

I am heading to the Venice Boardwalk as I do almost everyday in summer. There I spend a lot of time walking from the Venice Pier to the Santa Monica Pier and back. Lots to see and lots of happy people there to see it with. Have a happy day, wherever you are. L.A. is a big place.

You can't private message anyone until you've been a member for about a week...:)

@Pappy, I decided to bring everything in already. I looked at the news this morning, it intensified and my county is now included in the cone!
We also filled up the car and got some goodies at the store. We do have a whole house generator which give me some peace. We will be keeping an eye on our elderly neighbors as well. Keep safe, Pappy.

Ditto star, I always wondered what Graham crackers were ..altho' I had heard they were similar to Digestives.

Digestives are the plain biscuit which is traditionally taken with afternoon tea..or elevenses... as you can imagine as well as plain, there's chocolate flavours as well.
For me there is distinctive different taste between graham crackers and digestive. I would never make a crust (although I don't bake desserts very often) from digestive biscuits.

My British cookies (ginger) are hard to find and those are the ones that I dip in my tea every 6:30 p.m. They are called Ginger Bits and used to be available in the Bulk Barn but not anymore more. We do have a "British Isles" store and I can buy them there but they do cost more.

Sigh...it's hard when you do find a product you like and then it is discontinued...sigh...

I replied to hollydolly that the biscuits are different but I have highly sensitive taste buds.
