roast beef , and all the trimmings.... ..place was packed out.. I forgot the middle of the month is when most people get paid...

I'm home and done juggling grenades until Tuesday. Yay. TL showed up right on (her) schedule today. According to her schedule, 10am means between 10:20 and 10:30.

It's colder than a banker's heart here. Overcast and 60 with a cold north wind. I'll stay indoors today.

It's gonna be even colder tomorrow with a more...um...brisk north wind. I'll stay indoors tomorrow, too.

Stopped at Lowe's to get more grout whitening pens so I can finish the bathroom tile. Tomorrow. While I'm sentenced to being indoors.

@StarSong Did you go to the fire zone. How much was it affecting tourism there. Obviously fewer rooms and businesses but was there still tourist activity.
We drove past the burnt out remains of Lahaina on the highway when going elsewhere. Having had significant damage to my own home after a natural disaster (1994 EQ), I'm highly sensitive to the ugliness of "disaster tourists."

Maui visitors were down dramatically when we were there - like 25% of usual.

To do our bit to help compensate for the lack of tourists we overtipped like crazy - our CC kept sending fraud alerts like, "Did you really intend to tip 60% or should we look into this?" (Yes, we did, but thanks for checking.)

Maui's governor strongly discouraged non-essential travel to certain areas for two months after the fire including most of the time we were there. Our rented condo was 18 miles from Lahaina, and not in the discouraged zone. Plus we needed to use the airline credits (from a canceled March 2020 vacation) by Jan 1, 2024, and weren't sure if we could get a refund on our VRBO. So we went ahead with the trip and are glad we did. Most businesses were begging for tourists to return.

For context, Maui is 721 square miles and the burn zones added up to 20 square miles.

Our condo was about 25 yards to the water line. We walked the beaches for an hour nearly every evening. One night I took these photos. Left, center and right of the beaches and water near sunset. Including DH and me, there were a total of four people for as far as the eye could see.

I forced myself to take a long walk, over an hour, as I have not done that lately. It almost hurts, but doesn't. Just on the edge. Must get out more for health reasons. Didn't want to leave kittens alone, as I do all day Wednesday, but must tear myself away.

Louie jumped on a high cabinet today. I'm done for, they are taking over. 🐈 🐈‍⬛

Since I got home this afternoon, I've been wearing my Red fluffy dressing gown over my clothes.. I never do this ..ever.. but it's turned so cold, now at past 7pm..🥶and I didn't want to go to the bother of changing into yet another warmer outfit.. so I've been wearing my dressing gown with a hood...

My next door neighbour wears his dressing gown even to go out to his van which is parked on the road..I would never do that...

I don't wear Pyjamas to bed altho' I do have some .. I know a lot of people change into their pyjamas when they get home, but I never have, I'd be too afraid of unexpected visitors...

waiting for my groceries to be delivered and chatting with you lot. :ROFLMAO:

Hi gals, and guys! It's been a while, so I thought I had better pop in before you all started to check the local jails, looking for me!

Truthfully, I've taken a bit of a break from the Internet, and have been keeping myself busy doing "fall type" activities...cutting back the woods, cleaning out the gardens, sewing my Mom's Christmas magnet, etc. The new Fairy House is coming along slowly, but so far, I think it's going to be awesome!! I promise I will post pix when I'm done....whenever that might be!

My Saturday's at the rink have been super busy! Even though I have fun, it tires me out. I'm really glad that I'm not doing Sundays anymore!

Speaking of the rink, on the way home last night, a bear ran (lumbered?) across the road in front of us! I was excited! That was the first time ever that I had seen a bear in Arkansas!!! Dio had seen one a few years ago, near the same area, but I had missed that one. I know that they are around, but now I can say that I've seen one!

Today, I helped my neighbor bring over her 3-piece, patio bistro set to hide out on my back deck while some construction/repair will be going on at her place. Also, a lovely wood and iron wall hanging she has. I'm also sheltering 3 of her hanging Boston ferns. I hung one on the hook I have in front; looks nice.

I also have my own huge Boston fern on a stand on my deck as well as a smaller one. I'm now in Fern City! It was nice being out in the back lawn in the crisp autumn air. So perfect with just jeans and a l/s blouse. The grass was just cut yesterday, nice and green and fragrant.

Our neighbor from across the lawn came out to water her flower pots. I had an inexpensive dog sweater I had ordered for my dog, but it's way too big and I'd forgotten to return it in time. So, I offered it to the neighbor, but it's too small for her large dog. I ended up putting at the door of my other neighbor across the lawn who wasn't home.

I miss being outside in my old gardens or just sitting in a lawn chair, or walking though on a weekend morning in my robe with my coffee. Those days are gone.

Here, while I can sit outside on my deck, but the A/C - heat unit is right there and noisy. Lately, I haven't needed it but forgot I could go out and relax in peace.

seeing a bear would be enough to make me wet myself and never wanna leave the house again.

It's mid-day, sunny.. but very cold ..only 42 degrees... 🥶 so I've bitten the bullet and just turned the heating on.

It's hugely expensive to use the central heating here now... so I'll only have it on for an hour to take the worst of the cold off... and then maybe again an hour tonight....

Staying home today... tomorrow I have to be in the next county for a hospital appointment so my plan is to leave early and get my nails done first.. then after the appointment pick up a few things in town.. so it'll save me going out today

Have a good day , everyone..

After several days (mainly overcast, rainy-night), looks like we'll have some sun in the early portion of the day. I want to modify a portion of my lumber rack and sort the varied lumber that's in it. Then, my wife wants help with the dahlias that are still in the garden: cut the stalks down, dig up the tubers and put them into boxes that stay in the basement till next spring.
