Your G.G.G.G. Grandmother's Garter Knife (?) ... Two Oldies from 1800's Sheffield England
Prolly doesn't interest you at all, but a couple of very old knives in my collection.

I spent this weekend reorganizing my knife collection. Finally counted and I have 219 pocket and fixed blade knives.
Two hundred *freaking* nineteen !!! That's not even counting kitchen knives ... but there certainly aren't THAT many.
Anyway, it's now just after one in the morning and I'm wrapping things up by giving some "Luv" to these two oldies.

The dagger was picked up from the Los Angeles area and how it got there I don't know.
The dagger is about ~150yrs old and if it wasn't your G.G.G.G. Grandmother's garter knife ...
I find myself thinking about cigar smoke in the air, the clinking of glasses and bottles, and the sound of a piano wafting it's way through the cacophony of a crowded bar. I'm sure there were plenty of places like that on the west coast ... may have even seen the inside of some hall in San Francisco back in the day. May have belonged to a dandy with a honking diamond ring. Who knows.

The Bowie style knife was made by Manson, Sheffield, in 1859 and is a Civil War era vintage.
The original leather sheath is carved with a bullet, crossed rifles and a canoe.
I picked up this knife from New York state. Whether or not it was or wasn't in the Civil War, I don't know.
But it is a type knife that was often carried by the troops.

From abuse and neglect, both rise, able and ready to do work ... or pleasure ... again.

Jst said goodbye to my Boiler servicing guy... I could have sworn he wasn't due until Wednesday.. so I wasn't ready for him. I usually clear away the items in front of the boiler, and out of the under-stairs cupboard so he can get to the meters..in advance of their visit.. and I hadn't done any of that.. but he was a sweetheart kept telling me not to worry.. and very complimentary on my home..

However the best bit of all, is that he is not only a gas servicing Engineer he's also a plumber, and he's going to seek out some new mixer taps for me, as I really want new ones but have no idea what to buy size wise etc.. so he's going to do that for me.. send me a few choices, then when he's returned from his holiday in Turkey , he's going to come and fit it all for me.. If the people who are featured on murder shows are loved by everybody, how come they get murdered? They're always people who light up the room and have loving and warm personalities. They're also brilliant and pillars of the community or leaders in their schools. Hmph. If they were all that...
It’s often the same with murderers. They were ‘so much fun, generous, blah, blah.’

Sheffield Knives

@hollydolly ... a 728 page tome, "Tweedale's Directory of Sheffield Cutlery Manufacturers 1740-2013"
Revised and Expanded 2nd Edition by Geoffrey Tweedale. I've learned a little bit about Sheffield Cutlers over the centuries ;)

That and the 13 pocket knives I have from Sheffield, along with one more antique fixed blade of mine, from Cambridge Cutlery Works about 1890-1900. As well as 3 pipe knives from Sheffield.

All are wonderful tools I'm happy to have among my 219 knife collection.
I have knives from a few different European countries. All are traditional pocket knives. Nothing "tacti-cool".

Looonnnngggg day in the road. Had to have two new tires in Columbus. 4 hrs later, back on the road. Although irritating, I’d rather be in the tire place than stuck on the side of the road. I thank God He kept me safe and got me to a place where I could have the problem fixed

Now I’m Prattville, AL. Relaxing in the motel room after eating at the local Mexican restaurant…. Salsa was good, I sipped sangria and enjoyed enchiladas 🇲🇽🌮. Ole!

Raining again...!!

Had made plans to go and have my nails done, and meet up with my 2 friends.. but I had a terrible night sleep cuz my back is playing up..so I didn't get up in time..

I have to go out at some point to return something to the shop..today is the last day for return so at some point today I have to make the effort to go...

As much as people complain about too many gadgets on newer cars, the automatic tire sensor warning is a great thing.

I had the idea that a lot of mechanics hate them because when the batteries die they can be a pain to replace. Not hard work, not challenging, just a pain. Then they have to bill the customer for the part(s) and time spent, and customers aren't happy. Sure, something was "fixed" but it isn't something customers appreciate for the price like other stuff needing repair.

Worse yet, once one goes bad it makes sense to replace all of them. Now the bill is that much bigger.

It's 1.15pm...the rain has stopped the sun is out, and I've just got back from the shop. Instead of going to the one where I bought the item in the first place which is a 50 mile round trip, I went to the nearest store which is a 16 mile round trip... and while I was there I got the week's groceries, so that will mean when I do go to get my nails done this week, I won't have to get the shopping at the same time..

I was surprised how crowded the store was today.. no idea why that should be...

I didn't wear a coat... it's 58 F but it doesn't feel cold.. stopped off at the pharmacy on the return journey and picked up my meds... put the 3 bags of shopping away when I got home.. got changed, made tea, and a sandwich... and now I'm sitting down for the rest of the day.. (y)
