What are you doing today 2023

Here in farm country of western NY , it has rained for many days this past week ----- so Gloomy! And one night it hit 33 degrees! But yesterday I managed to get outside and do a few winter-readiness projects, as it warmed up a little and they expect higher temps for the rest of the week.

Sometimes I anticipate maintenance projects with dread, because I don't think I can do them anymore- but most of them are easy to do when I get started. I try not to limit myself just because I am old. Of course some things I cannot do anymore and have a local neighbor who helps.

We are used to power outages where I live-and we had one last night. I need to check my flashlight battery stash!

I must have missed that...how did you fall ?....

Yesterday...

Taking it easy today afer slipping on the mud along the shore and landing face first on my camera yesterday! (Don't worry - the camera is fine!) - I have a very swollen left side of my face and a lovely black eye lol!

I think a gentle stroll down the sea front just to make sure the camera is working as it should!

Ibuprofen is my friend 🤣

Today I'm recovering my energy after getting up very early yesterday to go on a day bus trip. It was quite good, lots of pretty scenery (though due to global warming + dry summer + the park's tree species, the trees hadn't gotten much color), I had an interesting person sitting next to me, and there was a relaxing multi-course sit down lunch at a restaurant with a spectacular view (though it turned out that it wasn't supposed to have been that relaxing and it put us an hour late on the schedule, ha ha ha).

Ah, having a fun day here. 🥳 (Don't believe a word I say!) Got up and turned the furnace on early this morning because it was freezing. Kicked on... and then died. Ugh! So the furnace guy has been here for hours and I'm shivering in my socks wondering how high the bill will be. Oh, and the furnace is also how we get our hot water, so none of that either. So that's what I'll be doing today... and thinking about moving to Hawaii. 🌴🥥🌴

I relocated the new (used) tiller under shelter yesterday, getting more of a feel for how it moves. Today I'll read the owner's manual to learn details. It's looking like snow may come soon. It's very evident on the slopes above us... probably wouldn't get too deep, or even stay very long. But I want to start up the snowblower's engine today to know it'll be reliable, and I want to move the machine into position where I keep it during winter.

I'm involved in a little planning for a committee meeting of the local environmental group I work with.

Also, I expect to have a friend help me move some recovered lumber tomorrow, and I want to do a little sorting of what I'll keep from stuff to be sawn up as wood-heater fuel. Also, I'll be doing a small modification to the rear door over in my wife's sculpture studio. It would be nice to have some time for reading, too.

Update: Getting warm... guy just left. I really love where I live... he was here for nearly 4 hours. When I asked the total, he said $140. Yep, one hundred forty. I'm floored. He's retired and does this "for something to do"... but he could charge a lot more. I tried to give $200 and was refused. If only more repair/technician people would take a page from his book!

I carry a concealed pistol when I leave the house, This morning at 7 am, I went to Lowe’s to pick up a new towel bar for our bathroom that is right aside of the laundry room. It took me about 20 minutes to find the right one. As I was walking up to the counter to pay for it I was approached by a local cop. He asked me if I was carrying a concealed weapon. I told him I was. He asked me if he could see my permit and the weapon. I asked him what this was all about.

He said the store manager called the station and said they had a man in their store carrying a weapon. I showed him my concealed weapon permit and my pistol. I also showed him my card from the Pennsylvania State Police stating that I was retired. The cop said “Oh hell. Why didn’t you just tell me you were a retired cop?” I told him because I thought he should do his job. He told me I could do whatever I wanted and he was going to let the store manager know that I had a carry permit and was a retired state cop. The manager said it didn’t matter. The store policy is no weapons. So I had to take my gun out to my vehicle and lock it up.

That was only the second time that the same thing happened to me. The other time was about 5 years ago when I was in a True Value hardware store.

Last Friday afternoon my AT&T optical fiber line was for no reason given to another new customer and then they connected me to what a third service tech found today was an open line. So lost high speed Internet 4 days though my mobile phone Internet connection was still usable. Since I am normally often on the web each day while watching little television, that was disruptive. However this last weekend spent the two afternoons attending live bands at a nearby downtown street Oktoberfest so was otherwise well occupied.

Was not easy to get a service person dispatched to fix it because of how the AT&T robot help system that has people call 800 2882020 was setup. It is only after one goes through that system without a resolution from automatic test processes that one might actually get to speak with a live person. The robot first had me reboot their gateway appliance (pots modem router) each time after which I was supposed to phone back and because my account was supposed to have a flag raised that I had just gone through that first phone process step that further troubleshooting would occur on subsequent calls.

But because the flag was never read, it kept sending me back to the first step of just rebooting. So an endless phone tag loop. An easy way for a telecom to avoid customer contact while frustrating those customers.

So Saturday went to a local AT&T store that helped set up my account so I could speak with a sales person yesterday Monday on at a different AT&T number whereupon I explained the situation and that eventually led to them setting up sending out a service person this morning that found where the Friday tech connected me to but never checked afterward.

Doing? Nothing. I was so tired when I got home at noon that I took a nap. I might take another one so that I won't be too tired to sleep tonight. Last night was an awful and lacey one, then up at 4. My shift was supposed to be 6-10 this morning, but there was so much work to do that it turned out to be 6-12. Tomorrow might be another long one. Yawn.

I sorted laundry this morning then started getting ready for my lunch "date". My son's GF usurped my plan to treat her to lunch. Instead she took me to lunch. No matter what I say to her about letting me pay, she will hear none of it ! I had to resort to surprising her with a gift card last time. I'm sure I'll have to use that tactic again.

Anyway, she took me to the Cheesecake Factory because she knew I'd never been. We had a lovely lunch and chat. It seems she's looking at the possibility that she'll be my next DIL, maybe in a couple of years. Yes, they've discussed marriage. I feel she is treating me with the same thoughtfulness and care that she gives her mother.

She had a devil of a time trying to get me home in time to meet her client. There was a car that slid off the highway onto a wooded area and was on fire. Traffic was backed up on both sides of the highway. Then there were a couple of detours in other roads she had to take. After I got home, I ate a little more of the cheesecake (still haven't finished it) and took a nap. After I woke up, I returned my BFF's call, watched T.V. and played WWF.

Another walk to a grocery store and my husband picked me up. Honestly, you can sell me anything if it’s on sale. Ended up with things I don’t need. My walks today weren’t too pleasant; there’s a bitter wind. In spite of that, I got my 10000 steps in. Did the usual household things and made a big pot of butternut squash with chickpeas. It’s time for me to quit making so many new meals; I’m gaining weight.
