What are you driving.....and do you like it?

I'm still driving my 2004 Kia Sedona. It's sounding a little rough lately. I just do basic maintenance to keep 'er going, and I only use it for short trips, just local errands.

We use Michelle's car whenever we go out of town and also when we go on a date or when we go visit family together. She's embarrassed to be seen in my Sedona.

We had a 2016 Hyundai Accent and a 2017 Mazda CX-5. Since we no longer needed 2 cars, I sold the Hyundai to Carvana for more than I paid for it. I used the money to pay for our granddaughter's tuition.
My wife was previously driving a 1998 Cadillac with the cursed Northstar engine. After the second time it blew the head gasket, it was time to get rid of it.
Talk about a culture shock to adapt to the new car with all the bells and whistles.

I like the older cars, as I have previously posted. Truthfully, I fear the day when I will have to drive a present day vehicle with all of the crazy features that fail a lot. I watch these car guys on YouTube and they tell endless horror stories of nearly brand new cars failing. So I am trying to keep up these old vehicles.

I'm driving a Chrysler Town and Country minivan. I like it, it's a great van, and it served its purpose when I needed to move a lot of crap from where I was to where I am now, but it's not what I want to be driving. I'm looking for a classic car or truck (toy) that I can piddle with and sink much more money than it's worth into.

2018 Hyundai Kona. Great compact SUV. Lots of safety features. Automatic pre-collision braking, lane change warning, backup collision warning, etc. We got it new, and just discovered that Consumer Reports recommends it as a good buy in a used car.

Are you driving something different in retirement?
How good is it to you?
What will you buy next?
............................................................

Current ride. I bought this going into retirement knowing I was going to run it into the ground before I get rid of it.
Love it, best all around vehicle I've owned. Has been very good to me.....Next? I would like a Lucid (but not sure I can afford it)
We will see when the time comes.

We bought a new car last June, and sold an SUV that we purchased new in 2000. It was a very nice Infiniti and had just over 100K miles. There really wasn't anything wrong with that vehicle and it had been well maintained. I really wanted us to have a vehicle with the advanced safety feature that mean a lot to an older driver. We shopped around and finally decided on a Nissan Rogue well equipped and economical as well. Our second vehicle is a 2002 Nissan Frontier, with very low miles. In all likelihood we never purchase any more vehicles we're 75 & 76 our driving days will end one day.

We are enjoying the new vehicle and sometimes the technology settings get a little complicated. At the same time it has more air bags, helps stay in our lane on the highway, keeps us from backing over stuff, and we like the Sirius radio as well. We're not rich but we live comfortably and downsizing a bit at our age made sense. In our days we have spent a lot on cars, i.e. Lincoln, Mercedes, Oldsmobile, Infiniti, Ford and Chevrolets. There are some more but you get the idea. At our age, and maybe yours, why not enjoy the vehicle you want?

I calculated that I drive about 3100 miles a year. My convertible is a 2012. It has not been out of this small county in about 4 years.

I expect it to out last me.

I thought people who owned convertibles were out driving Route 66 both ways, two or three times a year.

I worry about that, too! Actually, I worry more about how to master all the features of the new cars; they seem confusing to me.

I drive a 2006 Toyota RAV 4 with about 130,000 miles on it; it's still hanging in there OK. I'm careful to keep on top of the maintenance. I worry about long-distance driving in this state; the exits are very far apart, and most of them say "No Services." I have Triple A Plus, but still, my heart is in my throat every time I head to Grand Forks to see my older daughter.

We used to have a Jeep Cherokee Sport, and I loved it! I'd happily buy another Jeep.

Had to buy it second hand, it's quite rare and about as old as me....:D

I LOVE this - a true "horseless carriage"!

One of my fondest memories is being able to tour the Harrah's Auto Museum (twice!) in its heyday. Almost 1500 cars in five showrooms, arranged chronologically from the very earliest 1896 horseless carriage, through weird steam-powered and early electric cars, to the magnificent Duesenbergs of the 1920's/'30's, as well as Talbots, Delahayes, Cords, Packards, Isotta Fraschini (Bill Harrah owned one of the Tipo8A models, the same kind as seen in the Gloria Swanson movie "Sunset Boulevard"). He even had two of the rarest - the Bugatti Type 41 Royale. Only six still exist.

Every car was in working condition, and often rented out for movies. It was, of course, a massive money-loser, and sadly, when Harrah died, the collection was broken up. Nothing like it before or since, for sure.

Harrah collected cars until shortly before he died, in 1978. There's a much smaller, but nicely done version still in Reno, NV. Our local paper did a very good article on it back in 2007: National Automobile Museum, Reno NV

we have quite a few transport museums dotted around the country but the best and most comprehensive is this one...which is here in the south.....not the one I took the photo of the carriage above...

A fine looking truck you have got yourself there. There's a Chinese truck that I rather fancy. It's known as the Maxus T90.

Brutish looking thing, don't you think? In Thailand, SAIC that's the Chinese company that produced the Maxus,
market the truck under a different name, one with much kudos from the past. One that, were it available in the UK
I would buy it just for the badge on the grille. Kudos, or what?

Got my first motorcycle about a year and a half ago about 2 weeks before my 75th birthday. A 2022 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650: Taught myself to ride. Put 5,541miles on it, then last May I traded up to a 2023 Triumph Bonneville T100. Got 2,180 miles on this one. I should have done this a long time ago. I was born to ride a motorcycle.
Well Kudos to you for riding @ 75 ! I'm 75 and cannot [arthritis] . I started [actually] @ ten, with a dad built mini-bike. Got my license @ 16 , rode till I was 70. Been off now about 5 years , I have three of them sitting in the garage .... :( Enjoy and be careful ..... there's allot of nutty drivers out there !!!

Ever since I was 14, I've been a car nut - preferring Fords. My current daily driver is a '21 F150 XLT Sport that I ordered "loaded". I figured it might well be my last vehicle so I got everything I wanted. All around, this is the best vehicle I've had, and I've had quite a few. It's comfortable, easy to drive, safe, quick, and useful.

I drive a 2020 Chevy Bolt Electric Car. This really reduces our bills. It takes 2 days to charge though. I drive to work Wed and come home Fri so charge it while at work. Grocery Shop Saturday. Charge it overnight and it's charged enough overnight to make it to church & back on Sunday. There are two main perks- It goes instantly when you step on the gas. Someone tried to move into my lane and I easily got away so it's much much safer that way. Less likely to get into an accident. And it's only raised our power bill by about $100 a month. We have PG&G which is the most expensive power company in the nation.

No, I don't like my car - to drive that is.

It's what's classed as a 'city car'- Suzuki Alto. It's just a basic no frills 1.0lt engine tin box .
My little red tin box I call it.

Whilst it's crap for anything more than tootling along, crap for a comfy ride ie go over a small stone and it vibrates , put a couple of small bags of shopping in the boot and it's full - it's ace in that it doesn't incur road tax charges, is low cost for insurance purposes, high on fuel economy, with no gizmos to break down plus it's easy maintenance.
All of the positives is why I bought it new 10yrs ago. First new car I've ever bought.
It's never let me down, always passed it's MOT.

So I wouldn't be without it. Even though as someone who loves driving, and feels frustrated just tootling along when I long to let rip, it's all I really need now.

My car: 2019 Honda Accord sport. My truck: 1965 GMC. I love them both!
