What are YOU listening to in 2025 ?

Allison Moorer is a distant cousin of mine. My maternal great grandmother was a Moorer. Allison has an older sister also in country music ... Shelby Lynne. All of us from here in Alabama.

In teenage years, theirs was a hard row to hoe. Their father was an abusive alcoholic. Their mother finally fled the relationship with the sisters. In 1986, the father tracked them down. The abusive alcoholic shot and killed the mother in the driveway of the home they had escaped to, before turning the gun on himself. All the while, the sisters were right there in the house and knew what was going on outside.

It left lifelong lasting emotional scars on both girls. Although Allison has apparently handled it best thus far. Shelby Lynne turned to drugs for a good period of time. Even after all these years, I think the incident still weighs on both of them.

I've exchanged emails with Allison a couple of times but we aren't close.

Allison co-wrote this song. The song was featured in Robert Redford's The Horse Whisperer and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1999. Allison performed at the Oscars ceremony the same year.

Remember this one? Only 3 of the Beatles recorded this in 1968. George Harrison wasn't there that day. Paul McCartney used his own voice for the bass. That was genius as well as his melodies. I remember playing this for my children at bedtime. It's such a sweet song.

The White Album contains some very good songs that basically get lost. This song sits right next to Julia and gets lost in the shuffle.
George Harrison said in an interview that he would have preferred distributing the songs across a few albums.
