What are your favorite Biblical Movie Scenes?

True, some have considered the Superman story as analogous to the Biblical story of God sending his Son to Earth and the benefit to mankind. They also considered the film Dune, where a promised messiah is featured, as analogous. However, I meant those that use a direct approach by attempting an accurate depiction of biblically-described events. One of mine is the parting of the Red Sea in the film The Ten Commandments.

That's hilarious Pepper, she's like a Carol Burnett parody. I always thought Charlton Heston was the ultimate, over acting Master Thespian so they were well matched.

I try to avoid Biblical movies. I don't want Hollywood's versions in my head.

When Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ," came out, my pastor was obsessed with it and tried to make us all go see it. One Sunday an older woman asked me if I'd seen it yet. When I said "No," she got angry and said, "Jesus did it for you!" Like it had all happened at the Rialto that week and I'd failed to go show support.
 
Back when I was a kid, they showed the Christmas Story as written in Luke 2:1-20. Some of the churches in my area still put out a nativity at Christmas, including a live nativity using people and animals.

TV also ran a miniseries titled “The Bible” that included the crucifixion and the resurrection of Christ.

BTW

I used to watch the film with my son and daughter when they were kids so often that I suddenly found them singing some of the songs and mimicking the dialogues. One would assume the role of the High Priest who was hell-bent on stopping Jesus, and the other would offer the counter arguments against the scheme.


Then they would finish with

Then we are decided?
Then we are decided!

I personally found their interest in mimicking those song-dialogues strange.​

I advised my mother not to watch the part in The Passion where Jesus is getting whipped. But she insisted. I noticed that she was very silent as the whipping was going on. So I glanced over and there she was, silently weeping. I immediately turned it off.

BTW:
Very true. They take all kinds of unjustifiable liberties. The sad part is that those who are totally unfamiliar with the genuine version will assume the movie version accurate. Look at what they did with the film Noah starring Russell Crowe.

Wow, that was stunning. I like the actor playing Jesus and the one playing the boy was really good, too. My son really likes, "Jesus of Nazareth." I should probably break my rule and watch it with him some time.

Thanks for the feedback. Please excuse me for asking. I am a bit confused. Why would you have a rule about not watching the film it with him?

I just meant my general rule of not watching films about Jesus because I have my own idea of Him from the Bible. He usually gets out his DVD around Easter and never expects me to watch with him, but I might this year.
 
My wife and I went to the movies to watch, “The Passion of Christ” in 2004. We both thought it was violent. How accurate it was I don’t know, but our Pastor told us it had some of Hollywood’s violence and rapture in it.

If nothing else, I found it to be interesting and it kept my attention. It was worth watching, although some of the scenes were brutal.
